Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros. and Kirby franchises, recently teased his next major project while wrapping up his popular YouTube video series. Sakurai joined developer HAL Laboratory at age 19, where he created the character Kirby and directed the original Kirbys Dream Land. In 1999, he directed the first Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64, bringing together 12 of the Big Ns most popular characters in a frantic crossover brawl. Later entries would refine this formula and add more gaming mascots, culminating in 2018s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch.
