World of Tanks is teaming up with G.I. Joe for a unique crossover in the online battle tank sim. Cobra Commander and Duke will clash yet again, but in a way perhaps unlike they have before.
Wargaming Minsk's World of Tanks has found a lot of success since launching over 10 years ago in 2010. The game continues to be supported as well, as last fall World of Tanks worked with Silent Hill on a Halloween update. Now, the team has collaborated with G.I. Joe on content for the game.

In taking their battles to World of Tanks, Cobra Commander and Duke have new tank styles (skins/camos) that will be available in the game on March 18, 2021. Players can choose their side in the battle that has taken place for over 50 years between Cobra and G.I. Joe. The G.I. Joe Breakthrough Tank style is available for the Premium American TS-5 tank destroyer and the Cobra Battle Operations Assault Tank style is available for the T-54 first prototype.
This is certainly not the first time that developer Wargaming Minsk and publisher Wargaming has teamed up with another intellectual property/outside source for some sort of crossover for the game. Last year, for example, WWE content was brought to World of Tanks. Along with in-game updates and limited-time events, crossover content and collaborations are a great way to build awareness of a game. Fans of a specific entity may be more likely to try a game if it has content that crosses over into it. There is a fine line, as oversaturation can make a game feel like a marketing ploy. However, if the crossover feels natural, like G.I. Joe (a series rooted in military-esque battles) jumping in a tank, then it often works out.
World of Tanks is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
