Fans of the niche Metal Max and Metal Saga franchise have a lot to be excited about today. Success, the current publisher of the Metal Max franchise, held an event on Friday for Metal Max's 30th Anniversary. The event was teased as a thank you to fans, but ended up revealing a huge variety of upcoming Metal Max plans, the most exciting of which being the announcement of Project Wolf, the newest game in the Metal Saga series.
Unfortunately, the reveal of Project Wolf was only intended to be a teaser. There's virtually no information to share about the project, all that the director was willing to say is that Project Wolf won't be exclusive to Xbox - which is a joke considering the series has never come to Xbox in the first place. The full reveal for the JRPG is expected on May 23, which is the Metal Max anniversary's eve.

Metal Saga, for those unfamiliar, is a post-apocalyptic JRPG series with turn-based combat, though its most recent release has moved toward a style of free-form movement in combat. One interesting aspect of combat is that characters can be placed in tanks, which they can then get out of once the tank is destroyed. Otherwise, the games put a lot of focus on freedom of exploration in an open world.
Project Wolf wasn't the only Metal Max announcement of the event, however. A new Metal Max roguelike named Metal Dogs is currently in development, Metal Max Xen: Reborn 2 has been renamed to Metal Max: Wild West, and plenty more is to come in the next several months. As a result, 2021 is looking to be the biggest year for Metal Max yet.
Project Wolf is currently in development.
