Paradox Interactive announces its annual PDXCON will be jumping online this year, but will still include exciting announcements and panels.

During its PDX Insider event today, Paradox Interactive announced its annual fan event PDXCON is going digital this year. Hosted every year since 2017, PDXCON is an event best known as being the place where Paradox reveals any unannounced upcoming titles.

With this announcement, Paradox Interactive detailed that the event will run from May 21 to 23, will be completely free, and entirely online through streaming platforms. The announcement states the event will include "exciting announcements, panels and presentations from developers and designers, and interactive content" spread out across those days.

It also confirms the announcements will include the reveal of Paradox Development Studio's newest project, as well as the return of the fan-favorite Paradox Community Awards. Perhaps the most surprising addition to PDXCON this year is the open invitation Paradox has extended for fans to submit their own content. For fans who want to keep updated on the event, or are interested in submitting their own panels, content or talks for the event, Paradox also released an announcement trailer for the event.

It is not too surprising that PDXCON has been moved online this year, as that has been the trend ever since COVID-19 made large conventions and gatherings that video gam fans knew and loved unfeasible. PDXCON also follows in the trend of games companies moving away from the old-school announcement methods of waiting for the largest conventions like PAX or E3 to make all of their announcements, and instead opting to deliver the information in their own way at any time through online streams and events. Companies like Nintendo and Sony have seen a lot of success moving to the all-digital smaller scale announcement format, and Paradox's inclusion of community submitted content seems like a great inclusion for the fans.

As far as what to expect from the event, the new game announcement is anyone's guess. Paradox Interactive remained tight lipped, but one would expect to see announcements for some expansions or updates for its larger games such as StellarisCrusader Kings 3, and Europa Universalis 4. It was an odd move to announce a new digital event during the one happening today, but it did ensure the message reached fans, and it was surrounded by plenty of other announcements such as Crusader Kings 3 receiving its first DLC, Surviving Mars receiving new content from an entirely different development studio, and more.

PDXCON Remixed will take place between May 21 and 23, 2021.
