Not a lot of little girls voted to be Buttercup when thinking about who they'd be from the iconic trio, but whoever picked her was surely an awesome, unique person. She's the toughest fighter, the bravest, and very headstrong. Now that the live-action series is in the making, the age-old question of who's who is reopened.

But before fans can decide, they must know all characteristics of the trio. Each of the girls has some secrets and fun facts under the surface that only add to their unique identities, and in order to make a practical decision, fans must know all these details.
10 Her Name Was Almost Bud
It's understandable, because of her tomboy character, the creators wanted to give her a more 'boyish' name, but Bud? Seriously? Thankfully, this idea got nipped in the bud, and the name Buttercup was the final decision.
Instead of her name, her hair, and mainly attitude are the things that represent her tomboy character, and it doesn't disappoint.
9 Her Superpower Is The Ability To Curl Her Tongue
Blossom had her ice breath, Bubbles could talk to squirrels, but Buttercup was once again, the odd one out. And, of course, this made her frustrated and insecure, up until she found her very own unique superpower she could show off.
She could curl her tongue. And sure, it's not a special power, it doesn't do anything else, but it made Buttercup feel special for once, and she made sure everyone knew that this was something only she could do. Buttercup gives off high middle child vibes, therefore it's understandable, that every now and then she feels insecure, a little jealous, and she's looking for ways to stand out.
8 She Has Some Abilities
While she's the only Powerpuff Girl who isn't doesn't have fire breath, can't speak any other languages than English, and she has the least powers out of the three of them, she still has some abilities in her arsenal.
Her powers are the most relatable because instead of having superheroic abilities, she's physically the strongest and fastest out of all her sisters. Next to her laser eyes, and energy orb that all other girls can do, her main ability is her physical strength and tongue-curling. For a lot of fans, this is exactly what makes her special and the best sister of the three.
7 Her Male Counterpart Is Butch
Each Puff has a male counterpart embodied by the members of the Rowdyruff Boys. Buttercup's villain equivalent is Butch. When he first appeared in the series, Butch was the most silent, calm, and cool out of the three brothers. After becoming a Rowdyruff Boy, he became maniacal, jolly, violent, and a vandal.

He's sadistic, very brutal, and lacks mercy. He's also noticeably fidgety. Butch clearly shows what Buttercup could become if she were to become a villain. Her genuine remorse after making a mistake and her empathy are the only things that keep her from becoming Butch.
6 Her Blanket Is The Source Of Her Powers
Or so she believes. Throughout the series, Buttercup has an unnatural attachment to her blanket, and she says it's what makes her a good Powerpuff Girl, and it's the secret behind her abilities.
This endearing attachment makes her more of a human, showing her vulnerability. She acts so tough all the time, it's hard to believe she has a soft side, but evidently, she does.
5 Her Alter-Ego Is Mange
If she were a superhero, Buttercup claims to be Mange. When embodying Mange, she's surrounded by a light aura, has green glowing eyes, her voice is low and scratchy, and forms into black fog.
Mange only travels late at night, because she's sensitive to light. From the description, it seems Buttercup's superhero alter-ego is almost a shadow, which she evidently feels like from time to time. But even as a shadow, she's very strong.
4 She's The Toughest Fighter
Not only her superhero persona can serve a punch. Buttercup can throw a left hook like none of her sisters. Also unlike her sisters, she can't stand admitting defeat. Her biggest fear is losing, and whenever she does, she never admits it to herself, or to others around her.

Buttercup is the spice of the group, always the odd one out, and the most violent of the Puffs, but she has the biggest conscience too, and she's the most observant. When HIM turned the Professor against the girls, it was Buttercup who realized, that the Professor would never do such a thing, and she convinced the girls to fight back. Despite her violent, sometimes insensitive attitude, she's always there when she's needed.
3 She Was Supposed To Be Blue
A lot of fans don't know, that in the original design, Buttercup was supposed to be blue, and Bubbles was supposed to be green. When creators saw, that something wasn't right, the swap in colors solved all of their problems.
Talking about her color choices, she could also have been made yellow, because of the flower she was named after. But the color green made total sense. It matches the rest of the girls, it's a strong color, and it matches her personality. The color green in animation also accompanies villains, and while Buttercup is everything but a villain, she is the most aggressive, the spice, and the odd one out in the group.
2 She's The Worse Student Of The Three
Buttercup is often displayed as 'slow', as it takes more time for her to complete tasks in school, and she's the worse in math next to Bubble and Blossom. This again is a part of her character as the black sheep, but despite her differences, her sisters love her dearly, and always support her.
1 She's Left Handed
Creators really went all out when creating the odd Buttercup character. They didn't want any misunderstandings, she's the most different in the family. The fact that she uses her left hand to play instruments and write, is just another portrayal of this.
Both her sisters use their right hands, just to make this difference more obvious. This is never mentioned, but more attentive fans will notice it, and it's a fun easter egg to find.
