Some Among Us fan art imagines what the crewmates look like outside of their suits, and the result is nothing short of unnerving.

Maybe the most recognizable parts of the massively popular social deduction game Among Us are its crewmate mascots. Players can customize the look of the little space creatures each game, as they either attempt to uncover the Imposter or, as the Imposter, kill all the other crewmates. Called "blip blops and blurp bleeps" by Conan O'Brien in his review of Among Us, not a whole lot is known about the crewmates other than their penchant for performing tasks. But one Reddit user has tried to imagine what the crewmates look like with their space suits off, and it's definitely not easy on the eyes.

Though Among Us has been available to play for three years now, it exploded in popularity in 2020 due to well-known Twitch and YouTube personalities playing the game. Most matches simply involve players either performing tasks or trying to kill other players, but there are now mods for Among Us that offer more variety in gameplay. Among Us players have certainly seen the crewmates die in several horrible ways, but they've never been seen out of their spacesuits.

Reddit user Kroasan_Power decided to draw an Among Us crewmate without its suit on, and maybe there is a good reason these creatures stay suited up. This depiction seems pretty accurate but it's also quite unnerving. From its bald head to its stubby legs, the crewmate looks a bit like a flesh-colored jelly bean.

Other Reddit users have been quick to comment in horror or make comparisons. The suitless crewmate has been compared to children's novel protagonist Captain Underpants, the Kool-Aid man from the TV commercials, and a partially peeled potato. Film enthusiasts might also be not so fondly reminded of the cringe-inducing Thumb Thumbs from the Spy Kids movie, though the Thumb Thumbs did at least have thumb appendages that were meant to be arms. Although the near-naked crewmate isn't as pleasing to look at as this Among Us isometric pixel art scene, it's still a worthy piece of fan art.

It's unlikely that fans of Among Us will ever see crewmates without their suits on in the game, but that probably won't stop anyone from playing. Despite a player count dip in December of 2020Among Us remains one the biggest games to play with friends, with around a half of a billion active players and counting. The Nintendo Switch version of the game has sold over 3 million copies since its release just over a month ago, and it doesn't look like the game's popularity is slowing down anytime soon.

Among Us is available now on Mobile, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It will be released for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
