Season 8 of Apex Legends begins in just a few days, and ahead of the full patch notes, Respawn has released some details of what fans can expect.

Season 8, Mayhem, is fast approaching for Apex Legends, and there are a ton of changes coming. Not only are players getting the bomb-tastic new legend Fuse, but also a heavily redesigned King’s Canyon, a new weapon, legend buffs, changes to matchmaking and ranked play, and more. Here is everything that developer Respawn Entertainment has released so far ahead of the full patch notes expected on or before Tuesday.

As was revealed last week, Season 8 will be bringing a new weapon to Apex Legends, the first one since Season 6. This new semi-auto heavy weapon called the 30-30 Repeater fires faster than a Longbow but slower than a G7, with similar bullet drop to the G7. The 30-30 will also have the ability to charge, similar to the choke on the Triple Take, and will allow each shot to do roughly 35% more damage.

Respawn has also released the changes that will be coming to ranked. Ranked Points (RP) will now be dealt out to the top 13 in a match instead of the top 10 and more points will be dealt for kills and assists, in addition to the time window for assists being raised from 7 to 10 seconds. These changes, along with improvements to ranked matchmaking, is in an effort to help players more quickly get to the rank that bests suit them. Diamond trails will also be making a return at the end of Season 8.

As for the legends, several legends are confirmed to be getting changes at or near the start of Season 8. As confirmed by Senior Game Designer Daniel Klein, Rampart’s tactical wall will finally have HP while building, to stop it from being destroyed so easily. Wraith will be getting a nerf, likely in the form of a hitbox adjustment, a contentious decision that Respawn has had to defend given Wraith’s high win-rate and popularity amongst fans.

Lastly, King’s Canyon will be returning, albeit in a heavily reworked form. Apex’s first map was absent for most of Season 7, having been removed due to player complaints over balancing issues. It now returns as Obliterated King’s Canyon, a result of the leader of Salvo’s attempt to kill Fuse for betraying the planet by joining the Syndicates Apex Games. The gameplay trailer showed off the removal of Slum Lakes and the addition of a new area in the northern area of the map.

There is also mounting evidence that the previously delayed Switch version of Apex Legends will have a surprise release in February. There is also reports based on datamined info that a anniversary-themed collection event will be happening soon to commemorate Apex’s second anniversary on February 4.

Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S & X, with Switch and mobile versions in development.
