Respawn Entertainment's battle royale Apex Legends is going into its third year, and is in the midst of a now-extended Anniversary Collection Event. Not one to slow down, Respawn seems to have placed the first teaser for the game's next Town Takeover event.
Apex Legends is a character-based battle royale, with new Legends being added to the game in each new season. In order to highlight different characters, Apex Legends often drops Town Takeover events, in which a specific area of the map with be modified for a special event inspired by a certain character. Sometimes, these even come with new gameplay elements, as with Pathfinder's Fight Night.

Earlier this month, a leak pointed to a Caustic Town Takeover happening in Season 8, and players are discovering the first teaser that seems to confirm it. As players load into a game, the screen shows off Caustic walking around the Crash Site area in King's Canyon. Some players have even tried to locate Caustic in the game at the location he appears in the loading screen, and he can occasionally show up as a model. He doesn't say any specific voice-lines, but it is definitely curious that the loading screen would specifically focus on him.
Interestingly enough, certain players have been able to find a tablet lying on the ground in the area next to a large canister, which seems to be the one Caustic is interacting with in the Apex Legends loading screen. When players interact with the tablet, a voice recording plays of Caustic saying, “The erupted gas pocket and fuel have combined to create a gargantuan supply of toxin. If there’s a way to refine it, I could mold it into something spectacular.”
Unless Respawn comes out and says that this is some kind of bug, then all signs are pointing to a Town Takeover highlighting Caustic. The Toxic Trapper has been in a bit of a weird place lately in the game, as the developers go back and forth between buffing and nerfing Caustic. If the next event gives more depth to the character, it could be a great opportunity to entice more players to try him out. In the meantime, players will just have to wait for the next teaser or piece of lore to appear in the game.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will release for the Switch on March 9.
