A new collection event for Apex Legends means a new Legend heirloom is up for grabs. This time around, the battle-hardened, professional soldier Bangalore gets a Cold Steel Pilot’s knife melee weapon which is sure to turn a few heads in the arena during the Chaos Theory event.
Heirloom sets are the rarest cosmetic items in Apex Legends and consist of a special melee weapon with unique animations, a banner pose, and a voice line. Not every Legend has one yet, and during Season 7’s Fight Night collection event, Gibraltar was the next Legend to receive an heirloom in the form of a flaming War Club.

In the Caustic-themed Chaos Theory collection event, there are 24 premium cosmetics available to buy with Apex Coins, which must be paid for with real-world currency, or crafted using Crafting Metals, which can be earned randomly in varying amounts in loot boxes or through the premium battle pass. These cosmetics can also be unlocked by purchasing event loot boxes instead which guarantee exactly one random event item.
To unlock Bangalore’s Cold Steel knife and the accompanying banner pose and voice line, Apex Legends players need to unlock all 24 cosmetics through any of the previously mentioned methods. Once players have all 24 items unlocked, they will be given a final loot box that will contain Bangalore’s heirloom set. Players can equip the heirloom and enjoy looking through the unique inspect animations and showing off their new melee weapon.
Alternatively, there is also an heirloom section in the Apex Legends shop that allows players to purchase any heirloom set for heirloom shards. As with previous collection events and heirlooms, Bangalore’s heirloom set will not be available for purchase with heirloom shards until the Chaos Theory event has ended in two weeks.
However, Heirloom shards are extremely rare and can only be earned by players getting incredibly lucky when opening a normal loot box or they will be guaranteed to get them in their 500th loot box. During the recent Anniversary collection event, players could instead unlock Heirloom shards, instead of a new heirloom set, so any players that still have those shards may want to consider waiting for the event to end to unlock Bangalore’s heirloom knife.
A bug emerged during this Anniversary event which caused players to have their loot box counters randomly reset, causing many to unknowingly miss out on heirloom shards. Respawn was very quick to address the issue and gave out free loot boxes as compensation to affected players.
Not every cosmetic available in the Chaos Theory event requires real money or Crafting Metals to unlock. Players will instantly unlock the Chaos Theory music pack for logging in, and there is also the usual free track for all players to work their way through. This time, players can unlock stat trackers for Fuse and Crypto, a Rare skin for Horizon, and a Legendary Kraber sniper rifle skin.
On the free track, players can unlock items by earning points through completing event-specific daily challenges. In theory, the free track can be completed in five days, as the final reward requires 5000 points and players can earn up to 1000 points a day. Chaos Theory has also brought in a new Ring Fury LTM and many balance changes to the Legends and weapons, including a big nerf for Caustic.
Apex Legends is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
