Respawn Entertainment adds a Mass Effect-themed N7 weapon charm to Apex Legends, both a nice gesture and a possible hint at things to come.

Apex Legends has added some Mass Effect-themed content to the game for a limited time. There are plenty of Mass Effect fans who are searching high and low for all things N7, System Alliance, etc. within the Mass Effect universe. It is likely that not many of them expected to find something in Respawn Entertainment's battle royale. But that indeed is where the case, as players can unlock Mass Effect-themed content in Apex Legends right now.

Apex Legends is, of course, published by EA, the same publisher of Mass Effect, so the crossover content is quite easy to pull off. The content itself is a weapon charm, and it fits within Apex Legends very nicely. But on top of that, the new content could be hinting at more Mass Effect-related info in the future from EA, which is intriguing to fans.

The official Apex Legends Twitter account recently tweeted out that an N7 weapon charm is available now in Apex Legends. Players can unlock the Mass Effect-themed item by joining EA Play, EA's subscription service that is also now a part of Xbox Game Pass. The tweet also came with a small video showcasing the N7 weapon charm, and it looks very nice as a part of the Apex Legends guns.

The other aspect that makes this new N7 addition to Apex Legends interesting revolved around Mass Effect and its future. It could be that this is hinting at some news regarding the franchise. The reveal that Mass Effect will continue with a new game was one of the biggest surprises of 2020. It is likely that fans will have to wait a while for more concrete information, but EA could be teasing something with this Apex Legends crossover content.

It is interesting to see the ebbs and flows of franchises within video games. Mass Effect was one of the biggest names in all video games just a decade ago, but now Apex Legends is a much bigger name within EA, for example. So it makes a lot of sense to place Mass Effect content inside of the battle royale.

Beyond rampant speculation, what is most likely is that EA is simply shedding light on EA Play. Apex Legends players who are interested in this N7 weapon charm will have to take a peek at EA Play to unlock it. This type of marketing is quite normal, and often effective.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
