Epic Games already has several pieces it needs to kickstart a DC event inside Fortnite, and Season 6 should capitalize on this opportunity.

Fortnite is in the midst of Season 5, with the Zero Point leading to what is undoubtedly one of the game’s most exciting seasons ever. From Kratos to the T-800, Epic Games has not pulled any punches regarding this season’s crossover characters. There's plenty of potential for unique events to focus on dream matchups that the game has made possible. However, when designing Season 6, Epic Games should consider looking back to the Marvel crossover that took place in Fortnite just one season ago.

Fortnite’s Marvel crossover featured surprise additions from every corner of Marvel comics, bringing in characters both in and outside of the MCU thus far. The event saw Fortnite's island reworked to feature several iconic Marvel locations, culminating in a battle between Marvel heroes and Galactus. With the event proving to be a massive success for Fortnite, it'd make sense to replicate it somehow. Epic Games already has access to the perfect successor via its DC content, with several skins from Marvel’s competition already in the game. In a format proven to be successful once already, Fortnite’s next season should embrace the other side of superhero comics.

With Fortnite Season 5 set to end on March 15, players are not too far away from a new era of Fortnite. While it seems likely that Season 6 will focus more on the character of Jonesy, and the motivation behind his goal to cause as much chaos as possible, taking a break tell an exciting DC story could be plenty of fun. With a full season of breathing room before more superhero content, players could be ready to see more of their favorite comic book heroes. Plus, the arrival of Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League comes just 3 days after Fortnite's Season 5 ends, making for the perfect time to drop a massive batch of DC content.

Building off the hype for the movie while also benefitting from it, it is hard to think of a better time for Epic Games to hold a DC-focused event. Further, such an event would be easier to make happen than the Marvel event for one key reason: several DC heroes already exist inside Fortnite. With The Flash recently added to the game’s roster, alongside fellow Justice League members Batman and Aquaman, Epic Games would have a head start on making such an event a reality. With smaller heroes like Green Arrow also able to play a part in the event, there are already a fair number of DC heroes available in the game.

Still, there are just as many opportunities for more skins to come. After all, heavy hitters like Wonder Woman and Superman are nowhere to be seen, with fellow Justice League members Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter absent as well. A proper DC event could change this: Making characters like Deathstroke, Constantine, and Doctor fate available, as well as factions like the Teen Titans, the Suicide Squad, and the Bat Family as well, there would be no shortage of memorable skins. With a huge lineup of villains that could accompany The Joker inside Fortnite, the event could be a dream come true for fans of the DC universe.

A new season of Fortnite would need to be more than just cosmetics, though, and Fortnite’s DC content could see the island covered in iconic locations from the comics. While the Marvel season was able to bring in some memorable locations like Stark Industries, a downside of Marvel comics has always been the use of New York City. With DC, there are far more unique settings to pull from, and all could become a part of Fortnite’s map, if this hypothetical DC season became a reality.

One corner of the map could be Gotham; Entirely dark and rainy with a red sky above that calls back to the beloved Batman: The Animated Series, a monorail could help Bruce Wayne’s crime-filled hometown stand out. Another portion of the map could be entirely cold, depicting the Fortress of Solitude just as it is in the comics and animated films. Wonder Woman’s mythical home of Themyscira could round out the list of locations based on The Trinity, with ancient buildings, lush forests, and beaches. Smaller locations spread throughout, functioning as villain lairs for AI boss fights, could make Fortnite’s DC map a cut above the Marvel redesign.

The final feature of Fortnite’s DC event could be a boss fight on Galactus’ level. While there are a few options to choose from, such as Brainiac and The Crime Syndicate Of America, no harm could come from using a classic. Darkseid could be used as the season’s “final boss,” with Epic Games building up to the confrontation like it did with Galactus. Parademons could fill the map, with players battling throughout Fortnite’s island before having an intense fight with Darkseid himself. Providing players with a longer fight that takes full advantage of the reworked map, a Darkseid battle could be another way to make a DC season work even better than the Marvel event did.

Finally, while a DC event would be great to see, it could also be viewed as a huge step toward something even bigger. Much like how the arrival of Kratos and Master Chief opened the door for a potential Fortnite console war event, having an abundance of DC and Marvel heroes could be leading to a clash between the two brands. With such a crossover only happening once in the comics during the late 90s and unlikely to ever be seen on the big screen, Fortnite could thrill fans of both brands with such an event.

Players could lock in support for one side at the main menu, with their Victory Royales added to a total win count for DC or Marvel, respectively — making for a proper competition where fans decide who wins. Epic Games could showcase different AI battles across the map, from Thor vs. Superman, to Batman vs. Iron Man; a Marvel vs. DC event could be truly special. Getting comic book fans with no interest in Fortnite to play or watch the game could only serve to make it a bigger phenomenon than it already is, with Epic Games likely topping their Marvel crossover with ease.

While the event could end with a team-up of some kind, playing off the classic rivalry and fan debates should be the focus of such an event. While there would likely be red tape for Epic Games to get through, since a crossover surely requires approval from both Marvel and DC, putting the effort in would make for something truly incredible. With the Marvel vs. DC debate bigger than Fortnite itself, seeing it answered inside the game would be thrilling. Fans would finally have the chance to play out fights that they could have only dreamed of seeing previously. While Fortnite has plenty of options for future seasons of content, next season should double down on the DC universe.

Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
