Fortnite's Week 12 challenges are here, and the fishing theme continues-- though this time, players are required to return a fresh catch.

A large part of Fortnite's longevity is due to its weekly content updates, which drive fans of the series to complete a new set of challenges for experience, and, in some cases, new crossover skins, like the Predator. Season 5 has had more weekly challenges than normal, now moving into its 12th week of small events or side quests for players to complete.

A lot of recent quests have revolved around fishing, a relatively new mechanic for Fortniteand the ever-popular Fishstick skin, which has cropped up all over the place since its reveal in December 2018. These have ranged from events like catching different kinds of fish to giving players the ability to mimic Cupid, helping Fishtick land a date and a fancy dinner.

Week 12 is continuing the trend, as players are tasked with catching a fish and then throwing it back into the water, which seems counterintuitive. This is a fairly easy way to net a lot of experience and advance along Season 5's Battle Pass for the coveted Sapphire, Topaz, and Zero Point Skin Styles.

To do this, players must first find a Fishing Rod, which will occupy one of the weapon slots. With this in mind, it's best to drop in a zone near the water that's a good distance away from the more populated areas. A guaranteed way to get a rod is by finding a fishing barrel, which spawn on docks or, really, anywhere near the water. Fishing Rods also have a chance to be found randomly in the world, outside of chests or other forms of drops, as floor loot.

Fishing in Fortnite works in the same way as most other games-- cast the lure and wait until the bobber moves or dips under the water. Not every cast is guaranteed to return a fish, however, as it's possible to reel in weapons and other various forms of loot. Clusters of fish are visible from the coast, making the whole process a little easier.

Once a player has managed to wrangle a fish, it will show up in the hotbar. When it's equipped, it becomes a throwable item like a grenade. Launching the fish into the ocean in the same manner one would throw anything will complete the challenge, and earn players 20,000 XP. This is probably the easiest challenge in Week 12, as players will be tasked with hitting enemies with a Harpoon Gun, dealing damage with 15 seconds of gliding, and finding a mysterious family portrait in an unknown shipwreck, among other things.

Fortnite is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
