With only a few weeks left in Fortnite’s Season 5, fans are beginning to speculate about what the next season might have in store. Some fans on Reddit believe Season 5’s portal locations hint at the return of Kevin the Cube, a strange object that has not been seen in Fortnite since 2018.

Kevin the Cube first appeared in during the “Crack Closure” event that occurred in Fortnite in August 2018. The cube spawned near Paradise Palms just before the crack that had appeared in the sky a month earlier disappeared. The giant purple cube had several strange capabilities, such as charging the shields of players who wandered near it and launching people who jumped on it into the air. Though it first appeared as a stationary object, the cube eventually began to slowly move around the map, leaving mysterious runes in its wake.

Some fans believe that the runes are similar to the portals that are currently appearing in Season 5, including Reddit user duskyxlops, who has tracked the locations of the portals on Fortnite’s map. Duskyxlops mapped out seven of the portals and connected the dots between them, which they believe form the outline of a cube shape. This is evidence that Kevin the Cube is coming back to Fortnite in Season 6, according to the Reddit user.

Other Fortnite fans on Reddit seem to be split over the prediction. Some agreed with duskyxlops, adding further speculation that the cube will reappear in the Redacted Bunker. Of course, there are also those who disagree with duskyxlops as they believe that the theory is too much of a “stretch” to think the portal locations were creating a cube shape.

Whether fans agree with duskyxlop’s prediction or not, there is at least some evidence to suggest that Kevin the Cube may soon return. Last month, a prominent Fortnite leaker and dataminer posted screenshots of asset files that suggest that there will be Kevin the Cube-related cosmetics and skins in the next season. When the cube first appeared, Epic Games released cube-inspired items that were considered to be “dark” versions of existing skins, so it would make sense that the developer would release similar skins if the cube returns.

Still, it is easy to see what the fans who are calling the prediction a stretch are talking about. The portal locations on the map created by duskyxlops do not seem to form a cube, as the middle portal locations that would form the corners of the cube appear to be misaligned. But as Season 5 draws to a close on March 15, fans will not have to wait long to see what awaits them in Fortnite's the next season.
