Genshin Impact has a colorful cast of characters that players can access by completing certain story quests or via the game's gacha system. Some characters are more powerful than others, becoming hot commodities that players try to add to their list of party members. Others are considered to be less essential, not quite shaking up the meta and failing to inspire players.
When he first launched on December 1, 2020, Zhongli failed to set the world of Genshin Impact on fire. With the playerbase feeling that he was weaker than expected and too weak to justify his 5-Star character status, developer miYoHo introduced buffs in Update 1.3 for Geo characters that impacted Zhongli in particular. This massively increased Zhongli's potential damage output, and led him to became one of the best Geo characters in the game.

The bad news for players who failed to get their hands on him when he launched is that Zhongli is not currently available through Wishes, Genshin Impact's gacha system. Players can get and use Wishes that are earned from playing the game or through microtransactions to roll on temporary Banners that will reward them with characters. These Banners rotate rewards, with new Banners introducing characters to the game as older ones disappear. When a Banner is gone, the featured 5-Star character may go with it, making them impossible to get.
Players who check the currently active Banners in the game will notice that Zhongli is missing from the potential drop list, along with characters like Ganyu and Albedo. The only chance that players have of getting these characters is if they return to the game as part of a future Banner. This means that players who are looking to add a Geo option to their party will need to try and get Ningguang and Noelle, or use the Traveler - who can attune their abilities to Geo after reaching Genshin Impact's Liyue region.
While Zhongli may be unavailable, there is always an active Banner featuring a powerful character that players can roll for. Players can also hold their Primogems and Intertwined Fates, waiting for a Banner to arrive that possesses a character that appeals to them, and then go all in to get multiple copies of the character that they can use to increase their power.
The key to building a potent party in Genshin Impact is to focus on the base characters that are always available through Banners, as the odds of getting multiple copies of them are far greater due to their availability. These characters can then form the backbone of any powerful party, capable of dealing with Teyvat's toughest challenges.
Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
