Valheim has no shortage of options when it comes to offense. But of all the blunt weapons the player can craft, which one is the best?

Clubs are a completely unique class of weapons in Valheim. There are six one-handed clubs in the game, and a couple of two-handed options that deal AOE damage to enemies. It is difficult to rank them together because there are a number of relevant factors to analyze. The one handed clubs are straightforward bash weapons that deal most of their damage with blunt force. They also have the highest parry force compared to the other weapons in the game.

Two-handed clubs, on the other hand, deal low damage per tick, but have an AOE that can damage hordes of enemies at once. The following list will cover the strengths and weaknesses of each club, and briefly describe how to obtain every club in Valhiem.

8 The Club Is A Beginner's Basic

The first club players will be able to get their hands on is the base Club. The weapon is crafted with just 6 Wood, and any player will be able to craft it in the first few minutes of gameplay. With how basic this weapon is, it's no surprise that it ranks here.

The Club deals just 12 blunt damage, with a 25 knockback rating. The Club is certainly a good option for players at the beginning of the game to fend off low level enemies, but it will outlive its usefulness very quickly.

7 The Torch Adds Fire Damage And Block Capability

The Torch deals a total of 19 damage (4 Blunt and 15 Fire), making it is slightly more effective than the Club. It's primarily used as a light source in the early game, however. If gamers wield it alongside another weapon, they can use the Torch to block attacks. With 10 block, however, it will not provide enough shielding from attacks to be a viable secondary.

Players can craft a torch with 1 Wood and 1 Resin. Gamers will want to look for Resin in the Black Forest biome. The item is also a common drop from any of the Greydwarf enemies.

6 The Bronze Mace Does Real Damage

The first Forged club is the Bronze Mace. It is a considerable upgrade from the previous clubs, dealing a total of 35 Blunt Damage. The Bronze mace has a Knockback rating of 80 and 30 Parry Force. Players should note that all one-handed maces have a 3x backstab multiplier, which can be deadly for stealthy survivors.

For each of the weapons that require refined metal, players will need to build the Smelter and Forge to create them. Once they do, they can use the Forge to craft the item with 4 Wood, 8 Bronze, and 3 Leather Scraps. Survivors will find leather scraps in the various Mudpiles in the Meadows. Meanwhile, the Tin Ore and Copper ore used to create Bronze are found across the Black Forest biome.

5 The Iron Mace Improves On Bronze

The Iron Mace is an upgraded version of the Bronze Mace. This club deals 55 Blunt damage, with 30 Parry Force and has a 90 Knockback rating. Gamers will need Iron to Forge the weapon. To get this resource, survivors will need to defeat the Elder and acquire the key to the Crypts in the Swamp biomes.

The Crypts are clearly denoted by green torches and a small gated entrance. Inside, players can find Metal Scraps in the Crypt Mud piles. Once they have a decent amount of Metal Scraps, survivors can refine these into Iron.

4 The Stagbreaker Helps With Crowd Control

The first two handed club on this list, the Stagbreaker is dominant early in the game and can be crafted under an hour after joining a server. To do so, players will need 20 Core Wood, 5 Deer Trophies, and 2 Leather Scraps. All of these items are easy to find. Core Wood can be obtained by using the Stone Axe to cut down trees in the Black Forest. Players will have to kill a few Deer to get the necessary Trophies.

The Stagbreaker is incredible because it deals AOE damage with each attack. At just 20 Blunt and 5 Pierce per attack, it will not take down large enemies quickly. However, it is a crowd controller's dream. With each slam, all enemies within a few meters will receive 25 damage. Yet, its low damage and 20% movement reduction place it below the other two-handed club.

3 The Frostner Drains Stamina

The Frostner is a devastating one handed club that inflicts three different types of damage: Blunt, Frost, and Spirit. In total, the Frostner hands out 95 total damage per attack, with 30 Parry Force and 120 Knockback. The weapon will also drain the stamina of most enemies, essentially acting as a slowing or stunning effect. It is easily a top three blunt force weapon with little downside. Each of the materials needed to craft this weapon, and their locations, are included below.

  • 30 Silver: In the Mountain biome, found using the Wishbone
  • 10 Ancient Bark: Farmed from Ancient Trees in the Swamp biome
  • 5 Ymir Flesh: Can only be acquired from Haldor in the Black Forest
  • 5 Freeze Gland: Drop from Drakes in the Mountain biome

2 The Porcupine Deals Devastating Blows

The Porcupine is the best one handed club in the game. While it does not have the stamina effect that the Frostner does, players can upgrade both its Blunt and Pierce damage. As a result, the Porcupine will deal more damage than the Frostner fully upgraded. Other than the stamina drain, however, both the Frostner and Porcupine have identical base stats.

Gamers will need to kill Deathsquitoes in the Plains biome to find Needles. Additionally, Fine Wood can be farmed in the Meadows biome. Finally, to produce Linen Thread, survivors will need to grow Flax and use the Spinning Wheel.

1 The Iron Sledge Inflicts Widespread Damage

It was tough to leave the Porcupine out of the top spot, but the Iron Sledge is an amazing weapon. It may not deal nearly as much damage in a one-on-one engagement, but it can inflict pain on an infinite number of enemies. The Iron Sledge is an upgraded version of the Stagbreaker that has a base Blunt Damage of 55 and 200 Knockback. The massive club will slow and stun nearby enemies, while inflicting damage on each of them.

The upgraded Iron Sledge causes 73 AOE damage per attack. When fighting more than one creature, the Iron Sledge might be the best weapon in the game. The only material players will need to gather that has not already been covered is the Draugr Elite Trophy. The item is standard loot from the Draugr Elites in the Swamp biome.
