If there's one thing that the PC gaming community loves it's a good mod. And if there's one game that is absolutely rife for modding, it's Skyrim. From improving the graphics or the UI, to allowing players to pet dogs, it's the game that continues to be given new life despite being released ten years ago for nearly every system available on the planet. Let's face it, at this stage many are prepared to admit that while it's an amazing game, it's far from perfect; which is where modders come into the mix. Now a new mod will alter one other aspect of the game: children.
The Kids Are Alright Renewal is a modification available at Nexus Mods and seemingly does an overhaul of the children of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Fans who install it will see that the kids running rampant in Tamriel have had some alterations, from skin color, to hair, to even physical attributes such as muscular definition and smooth skin. It also adds another 27 children to the game, and fixes some bugs related to lip animations, apparently.

What’s interesting is that the children added aren't all humans, either. The Kids Are Alright Renewal has seen it fit to create young versions of the Dark Elves and even the beast races like the Argonians. According to the mod creator, these additions have come about from a previous Skyrim mod which was accidentally taken down. This new mod, however, seems to take over from the deleted one in terms of child NPCs.
There is one stipulation to the mod though: players still cannot kill children in the game. It's also recommended that players start a new game from scratch and it may even be best to remove any other mods that are related to the game's children. While this may not have the same flair as the Skyrim mod which allowed people to control children in-game released a couple of years ago, it does add a tweak to breathe a new freshness into the decade old epic RPG.
As fans still wait to hear word on the next installment of the Elder Scrolls series, picking apart rumors and hints, it seems there is still life in Skyrim to keep players happy for a little while longer. Despite the fact that Elder Scrolls V came out nearly ten years ago, mods such as the one mentioned here are a testament to the modding community, the fan base overall, and the potential for games to be played long after their supposed shelf lives.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available on every major platform. The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in development.
