The new trailer for 'Star Wars: The Bad Batch' introduced the new character Omega, and it seems to heavily imply that she's actually a female clone.

The clones featured prominently in a number of Star Wars properties have a rich and rather tragic history, essentially boiling their entire existence down to fighting a war compelled by their genetic modifications. It provides for some interesting stories and questions of morality, with one such tale resulting in the upcoming spinoff Star Wars: The Bad Batch. But now it looks as though this particular group's set of "defects" might not be the only anomaly of note.

In the March 30th trailer for The Bad Batch, viewers were introduced to Omega, a young girl who is surprisingly already familiar with the titular team of misfits by the time they meet. Reciting their names with stars in her eyes, the child's admiration of the group appears to be more than simply from their reputation, and they ultimately offer to take her with them if she wants. Ignoring the unfortunate implications if such a thing were to happen in the real world, there's clearly a connection between Omega and the Bad Batch, and it might have something to do with their genetics.

Many fans have noted how several details surrounding Omega suggest that she is actually a clone herself, which would make her the first female version of the identical soldiers. For one, her initial scene in the trailer appears to take place on Kamino, where all clones are created. Aside from that, her facial features are reminiscent of other young clones seen throughout the beloved Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show, including Boba Fett himself. That's not even to mention her voice, which shares the distinct Concord Dawn accent (New Zealand in real life) sported by all clones as well as the template they all spawned from, the bounty hunter Jango Fett.

Omega's possible status as a clone wouldn't necessarily be all that surprising. While clones are, by definition, identical, there have been a number of mutations over the course of the Clone Wars and beyond. Some might be ill-suited for combat like the unit known as 99, who was given maintenance duty instead of the typical soldier role. Meanwhile, other abnormalities resulted in less obedient clones like the Bad Batch themselves, who gained a rather stronger sense of individuality than their brethren. Since the mutations came about as a result of lower stocks of genetic material following Jango Fett's death, it stands to reason that anomalies would only get more and more drastic as time went on, theoretically up to and including changing the sex of at least one clone. It certainly provides the possibility for some powerful new dramatic moments.

If Omega is indeed a clone, it could open up even more storytelling possibilities for the previously unchanging group of soldiers. The Bad Batch is one thing, but the idea of a female clone could set a precedent for any number of new developments. Who's to say someone else didn't get a hold of Fett's genetic material from Kamino and decide to grow their own clones, each group becoming more and more diverse than the last?

Of course, some fans might not like the idea. But Star Wars ultimately features some of its best moments when it deviates from the standard formula like in The Last Jedi and The Mandalorian. So while some might feel burned out on all the new stories in a galaxy far, far away, there will always be more, and they might as well be creative.
