The Falcon and the Winter Soldier mid-season trailer shows things getting heated between Bucky, Sam, and John Walker/ Captain America.

There are only two more episodes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier season one and in anticipation, Marvel Studios has released a mid-season sneak peek, which gives us a look at what's to come. While the teaser doesn't feature that much new footage, mostly recapping what's already happened, it does tease a showdown between our heroes and the new, not so improved Captain America, John Walker.

For the last few weeks, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has been putting out episodes every Friday, and while the theories aren't as wild as they were with its Disney Plus predecessor WandaVision, the show's bold narrative has certainly become a topic of discussion online. The show has dealt with difficult, real-world themes such as institutional racism, terrorism, and American foreign policy.

Sam, despite being a literal Avenger, is dealing with a lack of financial security for his family and was even profiled by the police. Fans were introduced to Isiah Bradley, a black soldier who was given the same super-soldier serum that the original Captain America was given, but was then cast out by his government and thrown in jail. Then there's the new Captain America, John Walker, a man who at first may seem like the ideal candidate to take up the shield, but has revealed himself to be dangerously unqualified. While Steve Rogers represented everything good about America, i.e. freedom and standing up for what's right, Walker represents the aggressive and nationalistic dark side.

While the new sneak peek doesn't show off a tone of new footage, there are a few shots here and there. There's one part where John Walker declares, "I am Captain America," a chilling statement after last week's episode. The teaser also ends with what looks like a stand-off between Sam Wilson/The Falcon, Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, and John Walker in some kind of abandoned warehouse-type location. Sam says, "We don't want anyone else to get hurt," as he and Bucky size up the new Cap. Then Walker replies, "You don't want to do this," to which a battered and bruised Bucky says, "Yeah, we do." It looks like Sam is finally ready to get the shield out of those dangerous hands. Cue fan excitement.

Last week's episode finally saw Walker go off the rails when he beat a man to death in public with Captain America's signature Vibranium shield, tainting it with the blood of a man who used to be a self-professed Captain America fanboy. You can now add police brutality being caught on film to the list of intense, real-life subjects tackled by this superhero show. Walker was also revealed to have injected himself with the super-soldier serum, which was used to give the original Captain America his superpowers.

Walker was already dangerous, proving himself to be entitled and temperamental, but now with his elite military training and superpowers, he actually stands a chance against the Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It's an interesting reversal since Sam and Bucky were Steve Rogers' closest friends, now they will have to fight a Captain America who possesses all of Steve's abilities, but none of his charm.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is now streaming on Disney Plus.
