Over time, the Call of Duty series has brought fast-paced shooting to a myriad of game types and eras. Recently, players have had the choice between campaigns, ranked multiplayer, Battle Royale, and more. Now, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone are receiving a new mode and double XP before Season 3 arrives.
A popular new trend in first-person shooters is the introduction of a seasonal format for content. Rather than releasing outside expansions or locking items behind loot boxes, developers release additions during chunks of time known as seasons. With the second season for these two Call of Duty games coming to an end, the teams are teasing what players can expect for the third round.

Starting on April 16 at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 6 pm BST, there will be a unique mode available. This feature will be a tweak on Gun Game specifically in Black Ops Cold War. It is Blueprint Gun Game, and as some players might expect, it is a variation involving the blueprint mechanic. During the mode, competitors will cycle between 20 different weapon blueprints to try and reign supreme.
The next day, there will be a double XP bonus running in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. This benefit includes doubling regular XP, weapon XP, and Battle Pass XP and runs until April 19. Activision also mentioned that fans should keep their eyes peeled for more Season 3 teases from Treyarch coming soon. With the end of Season 2, there will be a nuke event changing Warzone's Battle Royale map. Supposedly coming on April 22, additional reveals could be part of the tease Activision is referencing.
As one of the most popular first-person shooter series, Call of Duty is consistently receiving updates. These changes to game modes and maps keep players coming back for more. It's great to see that the developers are working to prevent both these titles from getting stagnant. The Double XP bonuses are especially useful to those looking to level up weapons and Battle Passes fast before the end of Season 2. The Blueprint Gun Game mode should also provide plenty of chaotic fun while it lasts for the weekend.
Of course, some players might have been hoping for more before Season 2 closes out. While there has been a plethora of content added through the season, there have also been a lot of glitches. With League Play seeing some backlash in Black Ops Cold War, it is unlikely it can be salvaged by a limited-time game mode. In any case, players should be ready to hop back in for Double XP and Season 3 teases in the coming days.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone are available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
