In preparation for Patch 5.5, Final Fantasy 14 released an event known as the Moogle Treasure Trove, which began on March 15th. The event, much like the previous Moogle Treasure Trove events, gave players an incentive to run older content, as players would be rewarded with Irregular Tomes of Esoterics upon completion of certain raids, dungeons, and trials. These events were usually scheduled until maintenance of the next major patch to help players who need to catch up on old content pair with those who have already completed the content.
One of the items players could have earned with their Irregular Tomes of Esoterics was the Mariner Cotton Cloth, a material item that's the centerpiece for crafting exclusive summer-inspired glamour outfits. However, with Final Fantasy 14's long-awaited Patch 5.5 arriving tomorrow, maintenance will occur for players tonight at 6 PM PST, ending the month-long Moogle Treasure Trove event.

Among the items that the Itinerant Moogle offers during the Moogle Treasure Trove event, the Mariner Cotton Cloth is an item that can be regularly obtained outside of the event. While items such as the Tyrannosaur Horn require the player to spend hours in Eureka, among other Eureka-exclusive items, players will have to find Boarskin Leather Maps scattered across Eorzea to have a chance to treasure hunt for a piece of Mariner Cotton Cloth.
Players will have to unlock the Dig and Decipher actions upon completion of the level 36 side-quest Treasures and Tribulations located in Raincatchers Gully nearby Wineport in Eastern La Noscea. To gather the required Boarskin Leather Maps hidden in level 50 nodes, players will need at least a level 46 gathering class to discover them. The locations of the Timeworn Boarskin Maps across Eorzea are as follows.
- Riversmeet - Corethas Western Highlands
- The Bramble Patch - East Shroud
- The Clutch - Central Thanalan
- Sagolii Desert - Southern Thanalan
- Bluefog - Northern Thanalan
- Riversmeet - Coerthas Western Highlands
- Quarterstone - Western La Noscea
- The Bramble Patch - East Shroud
- The Gods' Grip - Lower La Noscea
- The Silver Bazaar - Western Thanalan
The Mariner Cotton Cloths are used to craft the two Moonfire sets, one for men and the other for women, as well as the unisex Sailor set. To craft a complete set, players will need a total of 8 Mariner Cotton Cloths for the Moonfire hat, upper body, lower body, and shoes. For the Sailor set, players will need 5 for the Sailor upper body, lower body, and shoes.
Treasure maps can only be gathered once every 18 hours by players, but there is no limit to the amount players can decipher at any given time. Players can only hold one type of map in their inventory as well, meaning that if players use their inventory space, Chocobo saddlebag, and their two retainers' storages, players can hold up to four maps by default.
Another way that players can obtain the Mariner Cotton Cloths is through the market board, buying the materials from other players who are selling. The amount of labor and chance left to obtaining the Mariner Cotton Cloths outside of the Moogle Treasure Trove event may cause the materials to increase in value, yet players lucky enough can buy them for cheap before the prices skyrocket as Patch 5.5 begins.
Final Fantasy 14 is available on PC and PS4 with a PS5 beta in the works.
