Outriders players may be struggling with the Shaman Warlord found in the game and may need some help understanding the mechanics behind the fight.

Outriders, like many games, features some particularly difficult boss fights. Players of Outriders may find themselves up against other Altered, Monsters, or even a Shaman Warlord. For fans of Outriders, these boss fights can be easy to complete on a solo run, or a struggle with a full three-man squad.

The Shaman Warlord is not a particularly tough enemy, but it is a bullet sponge that has some key mechanics to watch out for, making this fight more of a dance around the map than a straight-up gunfight. The Shaman Warlord in the Pax City is part of the campaign mission, Babylon, and will need to be defeated if players want to progress through the campaign. Another Shaman Warlord can be found in the Outriders side quest, Shepherds of Enoch, with a slight variation in its attacks.

The Shaman Warlord has a series of attacks that need to be countered to be successful in this fight. Any class can defeat the Shaman Warlord so players can enjoy Outriders' Devastator and still see success. Some attacks from these Shaman Warlords will be encountered later in the Outriders campaign, players should keep a mental note of how to counter these attacks.

During the fight with the Shaman Warlord in the main campaign, players will see the following attacks: Anomaly Rifts, Overload, and Grasping Shock. The key is to watch for what attacks are being channeled and react appropriately. Interrupt skills can help interrupt the Shaman Warlord, canceling his attacks, but are not required for this fight. Players will need to clear the arena of the initial wave of enemies at the start of the fight before focusing on the Shaman Warlord.

Once the initial wave of enemies is defeated, players can worry about the mechanics of this fight. The first thing players need to worry about is the Anomaly Rifts. This attack sends out two blue stationary balls that will shoot at the player. Outriders players will need to focus on destroying the rifts before too many of them are placed on the map. Managing these rifts throughout the fight is vital to be successful in this fight.

Overload shoots across the ground in a straight line from the Shaman Warlord and can go under obstacles and walls to hit the player. The Shaman Warlord will also protect itself with a shield while charging this attack, so players should not shoot the Shaman Warlord and instead keep moving to avoid the attack when it's fired. This is a good time to take down any Anomaly Rifts that may be up, with more Outriders players in the squad making this easier to manage.

Grasping shock is an area of effect attack, so players will want to move out of the blue area of effect before the attack is cast to avoid being hit and knocked back. Once players dodge out of the area of effect, they can take some shots at the Shaman Warlord to keep chipping away at its health with their single-target DPS weapon of choice.

Throughout the fight, when players have done some damage to the Shaman Warlord, the Shaman will summon two other normal Warlords that can heal the Shaman. Players will want to prioritize these Warlords when they appear on the battlefield to prevent them from healing the Shaman and to eliminate their series of attacks that can freeze the player. When the secondary Warlords are down, players can continue focusing on the Shaman Warlord.

At this point, players should know how this fight works and how to manage this dance. If the fight is proving too difficult, players can always lower their World Tier to make it easier. Avoiding the Shaman’s attacks while chipping away at his health becomes more of an endurance fight because of the Shaman’s high health pool. Eventually, the Shaman will summon smaller melee enemies that should be prioritized when they arrive.

Managing the Anomaly Rifts and the few waves of enemies make this fight much easier. High single-target DPS weapons and skills are the preferred route because of the limited window that players can attack the Shaman Warlord. Status Effects also work but can be resisted. If Outriders players learn the way this Shaman Warlord attacks, they will be successful at dancing around the battlefield while countering the Shaman’s attacks to defeating this boss.

The Shaman Warlord in the Shepherds of Enoch side quest adds the Chain Lightning and Lightning Strikes attacks. Chain Lightning does not seem avoidable, but Lightning Strikes can be avoided by moving out of the red area of effect circles while the Shaman Warlord is casting the attack. Players will want to use similar strategies to fight this Shaman Warlord as they did for the Shaman Warlord found in the campaign. The biggest difference is that the arena will be full of other enemies that make this fight more difficult, clear the enemies and then focus on the Shaman Warlord.

Players are sure to learn the strategies behind these Shaman Warlords and eventually craft an Outriders build to defeat them. However, there is another enemy in Outriders that steals these attacks from the Shaman Warlords. Players who have defeated both of these Shaman Warlords should be able to counter these attacks when they encounter them again.

Outriders is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
