The upcoming port of the indie title Moon Raider to PS4, Switch, and Xbox One could be compatible with next-gen consoles as well.

Cascadia Games has been excited to port Moon Raider from PC and Mobile to consoles, and it looks like players will be able to enjoy the game with the latest hardware. While this upcoming port is set to bring the game to PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, it will also be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S when the console editions release.

This comes from a recent interview with Cascadia Games owner Chris Jorgensen, who spoke with Game Rant about the upcoming port of Moon Raider. One aspect of porting the indie title from Steam and Mobile to consoles means that it will be available on every major console now, with the increased performance and resolution that comes with next-gen systems.

The availability of Moon Raider on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S is mostly a result of how the new consoles treat backwards compatibility with the previous generation of home systems. While not every game is automatically available between the libraries on bother generations, Jorgensen did state when asked about Moon Raider's compatibility that the game will be there for players who have upgraded. Like most titles, the new port also benefits from the 4K resolution that these new consoles are better able to reach at higher performance levels.

"GR: Will the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Moon Raider be backwards compatible with next gen consoles?

Jorgensen: Absolutely! It looks fantastic in 4K, I might add."

Considering that the classic art style of Moon Raider is one of the strongest draws of the indie title, harkening back to retro Metroidvania and Mega-Man titles, getting the best visual quality out of the game is important. Jorgensen also commented that the game looks great in 4k on next gen consoles, which is a hefty step above some of the older inspirations for this genre of game. Regardless, that type of increase in image quality can only improve the product and make the game even more enticing to console players who are looking for the best experience for their purchase.

Of course, the indie title wasn't originally created for next-gen consoles, or even the previous generation that it is being ported to, so this won't be the type of title that might make the most out of PS5's DualSense or Xbox Series X/S's controllers. Instead, players will mostly be getting a better visual experience, as well as the added convenience of keeping more of their library on a single console. So, even if it doesn't have features crafted specifically for next-gen, these newer consoles might still be the best way to experience Moon Raider when the port arrives.

Moon Raider is available now on Mobile and PC, with a PS4, Switch, and Xbox One release set for April 23rd.
