For the sweetest riffs and most sinister slides, players should try out these awesome Guitar Hero 2 tracks!

Excluding the DLC content, there are about 40 songs in Guitar Hero 2, which was released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2 and 2007 for the Xbox 360. These many classic and modern rock 'n roll ballads have been captured in-game for players to enjoy from a different perspective, which is arguably the best result of the Guitar Hero series.

Due to their powerful melodies and rhythms, some songs stand out as being the most intense, and most enjoyable, to play with a controller that feels like a real instrument. Although, there are some other reasons to enjoy playing the best songs aside from their wicked tune and riveting gameplay, such as nostalgia value and some laughs.

10 "Trogdor the Burninator" By Strong Bad

Available as a bonus song, this power ballad from Homestar Runner, a website featuring unique and hilarious animation, gave meme-loving fans much joy to belt out and sing along with.

"Trogdor the Burninator", for those unfamiliar with it, is a song about a dragon drawn by a character from Homestar Runner named Strong Bad who goes on a rampage set to their creator's narration and some wicked in-game guitar chords.

9 "Beast And The Harlot" By Avenged Sevenfold

Initially released on the album 'City of Evil', this 2006 song by the metal band Avenged Sevenfold possesses a lot of satisfying slides and riffs. "Beast and the Harlot" depicts the fall of Babylon through sinister lyrics, though is actually comparing Hollywood to the great and ancient city.

The lead singer of the band, M. Shadows, stated that this song is about people losing their souls in the California-situated city, and players can feel the power of the words about corruption vividly while playing it themselves.

8 "Salvation" By Rancid

1995 saw this breakthrough on the punk rock music scene by the band Rancid from their album 'Let's Go'. "Salvation" is always a super chill song to play, despite being tricky to perform on higher difficulties (like all songs, to be fair).

In addition to being playable in GH2, this song was featured in a Diet Coke commercial as well as an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

7 "YYZ" By Rush

This highly technical song by the Canadian progressive rock band, Rush, is a tough one to play, even on lesser difficulties. However, it is a satisfying challenge and one that requires a player to feel the song and become one with their instrument in order to perform properly.

Released on Rush's 1981 album, 'Moving Pictures, "YYZ" is an instrumental composition that has become one of the band's most popular songs.

6 "Carry On My Wayward Son" By Kansas

As one of the older songs in the game, "Carry on my Wayward Song" is from the progressive rock band Kansas' 1976 album 'Leftoverture'.

The variation that takes place throughout the song makes for a unique experience and one that players will have to learn more intensely in order to play it well, for this song is one that breaks the mold and does not follow the usual patterns of most more modern songs.

5 "Free Bird" By Lynyrd Skynyrd

The undulating melody of this southern rock song by Lynyrd Skynyrd tends to evoke good vibes from a lot of people, especially those who grew up with this tune from the band's debut album that was released in 1974 titled '(Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)'.

For a song about freedom, "Free Bird" is appropriately liberating, though chaotic to play at certain parts in the song. Many players love the challenge of this classic track, even if they weren't around when it was initially released.

4 "Sweet Child O' Mine" By Guns N' Roses

With an instantly recognizable intro, "Sweet Child o' Mine" always makes hard rock fans perk up their ears and bob their heads. Arguably one of Guns N' Roses' most well-known songs, this track from the 1987 album 'Appetite for Destruction' reached number 1 on the US Billboard Top 100 chart when it was released as a single in 1988.

Funky riffs along with enough downtime to enjoy the song properly make this a high-tier favorite for many Guitar Hero fans and hard rock-lovers alike.

3 "Them Bones" By Alice in Chains

Despite not being one of the famous grunge band's biggest hits, "Them Bones" is still a solidly respected Alice in Chains song. The depressive track from the band's 1992 album 'Dirt' is about how life ends for everyone and states this bleak truth with a hint of humor.

What makes this tune stand out among others is the change of time signature partway through the original song, which creates some unique gameplay.

2 "The Trooper" By Iron Maiden

This tremendous track by the power metal band Iron Maiden packs an appropriate amount of punch that will set the blood of any player on fire. "The Trooper" is a song about striving forth without faltering, regardless of the consequences.

It is from the band's 1983 album 'Piece of Mind' and has been one of the English band's most requested songs over their multiple decades of touring.

1 "War Pigs" By Black Sabbath

From one of the pioneering bands of the modern Heavy Metal genre, Black Sabbath, "War Pigs" is a song that captures the essence of this legendary musical group and what makes them so long-lasting and influential.

This awesome track accompanied quite a few other stellar numbers on the renowned 1970 album 'Paranoid'. All those who enjoy Guitar Hero 2, as well as the heavy metal genre, can attest to the fact that this is a tune everyone should play, and for many reasons.
