Thanks to Genshin Impact's financial success, miHoYo will extend its roadmap from 5 years of content updates to 12, according to an insider.

A prolific Genshin Impact insider reveals miHoYo's plans to extend its content updates and roadmap for many more years than originally planned.

Genshin Impact has been releasing the regional updates far between. Unlike the regular content updates that land every few weeks and the version updates that land every six weeks, regional updates are spaced farther apart than fans originally expected. Players have been waiting in anticipation to find out whether the element Dendro or the Japanese-inspired region Inazuma would see a release first, but either way, they're both likely a ways away. The original roadmap stated that Genshin Impact's updates would stretch for 5 years, but now, miHoYo is planning to keep the updates rolling for more than 10, according to a known Genshin Impact source.

According to the leak, this decision from miHoYo follows Genshin Impact's success and the massive profits it's accrued since its release, mainly from players Wishing for five-star characters on the gacha. This leak comes from Arkywzx, who has a strong track record regarding Genshin Impact leaks so far, via the Wangshen Funeral Parlor Discord server. Thanks to the continued profits, the leak claims miHoYo has decided to extend its 5-year plan to a 12-year content update roadmap.

Just one week after launch, the game had made over $60 million, and by the end of the second, Genshin Impact had made over $100 million. But the profits certainly didn't end there. By the end of March 2021, miHoYo had earned over $1 billion in revenue from its gacha game, giving it the name of the fastest mobile title to reach this milestone.

Arkywzx doesn't detail what the longer roadmap means for Genshin Impact's future, but it's been suggested by other insiders that miHoYo has delayed some updates such as Inazuma to maximize profits.

As with all Genshin Impact leaks, this should be taken with a grain of salt. Though leakers like Arkywzx have been mostly on the money when it comes to insider information, miHoYo has warned that the leaks jeopardize the roadmap of content updates as well as the content within them. Likewise, a few leaks such as Ayaka's release date in 1.4 never came to fruition.

While it's easy to imagine miHoYo supporting Genshin Impact for 5 years, 12 years is quite the stretch to maintain the same game, but it's certainly not unheard of in the world of online gaming. It could be possible that miHoYo plans to model Genshin after games like World of Warcraft or League of Legends, which will go on virtually forever as long as players are still playing the games.

Genshin Impact is available now for Android, iOS, PC, and PS4, and is in development for PS5 and Switch.
