It sounds like Bungie is gearing up to release another round of the competitive Guardian Games later this month in Destiny 2.

Guardians with a penchant for competition will want to hop back in to Destiny 2. Part of the appeal in Bungie's signature multiplayer shooter are the numerous ways for players to go head-to-head. From a recent leak, it looks like the team is bringing back the competitive Guardian Games for 2021 in Destiny 2.

Introduced in 2020, the limited time event see Guardian classes face off to earn the greatest amount of points. After speaking to Eva Levante, competitors receive a class item that they must equip to earn progress. Not only are there prizes on the line for the winners, but it also proves which class in Destiny 2 is best. While Titans took 2020, Hunters and Warlocks will have a chance to claim the title later this month.

According to a leak by Twitter user joshhunt, the games will begin April 20 and finish up on May 9. The leaker was able to access information on the event due to the main site going live ahead of time. Even the title's help page had information about the Guardian Games, confirming that it is likely coming. To add on to the main grind for points, Bungie is adding in the Destiny 2 bounty replacement, weekly challenges, to encourage participation. This means that there will be rewards for the winning class at the end of each week, in addition to the final overall tally.

Once the event starts, Guardians will be able to head over and grab the class specific item. Equip the piece and jump into some PvP modes to start earning medals, contributing towards the class total. This is not just for bragging rights, as there are supposedly going to be Exotic weapons and items available. The main reward for 2021 is the Heir Apparent Exotic Machine Gun, but there are more goodies like cosmetics and Guardian Games armor sets. Plus, each class will receive a unique Legendary class item as part of the Guardian Games.

Fans will likely be excited for a new activity to join in and earn rewards for. With the upcoming Festival of the Lost vote in Destiny 2 a resounding success, it is clear that Guardians like to compete. As a live service title, it is important for Bungie to keep players engaging even in downtime. The beginning of Guardian Games 2021 looks to coincide with the end of Season of the Chosen, but now players will have a new activity to enjoy.

Though it is possible that not all gamers will be interested in another Guardian Games. The armor sets have a sportier vibe, which may not be particularly fitting for some players. Plus, it involves hopping into PvP matches which is not everyone's bag. That said, the additional goals and rewards should be plenty for those enjoying Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
