The Longing launches on the Nintendo Switch today, bringing the game's unique time-focused premise to frequenters of the portable console.

Announced during Nintendo's Indie World Showcase, Studio Seufz's The Longing is officially available for the Nintendo Switch starting today. The indie title initially hit PC last year, managing to find acclaim due to its experimental concept and inspired art style.

For those who've never heard of The Longing, it follows a creature known as a Shade that explores an intricate cave system while waiting 400 days to awaken its sleeping king. The catch is that The Shade must wait in real-time, finding ways to keep itself occupied as 400 days tick away.

It's an incredibly unique concept and one that developer Anselm Pyta claims was a "passion project" that took years to accomplish. Along with the innovative timer mechanic, it also features puzzle gameplay, fun secrets to find, multiple endings, and more. Players can also find various ways to speed up the timer, with the Switch's official page for The Longing hinting that books could be an answer to the character's excruciatingly long wait. Those wanting to grab a copy of the title can find it on the Nintendo eShop today, where it will set them back $14.99.

The Longing wasn't the only game shown off at Nintendo's recent indie-focused stream, with the publisher also highlighting the likes of OlliOlli World, There is No Game: Wrong Dimension, Aztech: Forgotten Gods, and Oxenfree 2: Lost SignalsIt was a solid indie showcase and yet more proof that Nintendo continues to offer one of the best platforms for independent games. Those wanting to get their hands on some smaller hits can head over to the store now, where it's currently holding its Indie World Sale.
