There are quite a few abilities that players need to unlock in Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Here's a look at what to get first.

Those who played the 2015 game Ori and The Blind Forest have waited on the edge of their seats for this one. Ori and the Will of the Wisps did not disappoint fans. Creators have managed to do the impossible and exceeded the 2015 game. Its unique style, animation, and graphics are accompanied by a jaw-dropping soundtrack that makes each scene a new adventure to look forward to.

It raised the standards of every adventure game out there with its captivating story, beautiful graphics, and an ending that stays with players for a long time. And even though the gameplay is similar, the Will of the Wisps added a few new tricks to their arsenal in the form of abilities, and while the gameplay flows effortlessly and smoothly, newcomers can get wrapped up in the action and quickly get lost between all abilities available.

7 Spirit Smash

The first ability will cost 400 Spirit Lights, so players must choose wisely. Spirit Smash is a recommended first ability, because using it doesn't drain energy, and it's quite useful in getting around (and in combat, as well). This is one of the most essential abilities, and players should think of upgrading it fast.

Apart from being a huge asset in fights thanks to its strength, it's also great for easily navigating through the map, because it's able to smash weak stone structures easily. Some structures are breakable without Spirit Smash, but sometimes players will find some walls and bridges that can only be brought down with this special ability.

6 Spike

Spike costs 800 Spirit Light, but it's worth it because this is the most powerful ability in the game, bar none. The only downside is that using it drains a lot of energy that is hard to make up for. So it's recommended to get this after purchasing Spirit Smash and obtaining the free Quickshot and Splinter abilities along the way.

If it were the first ability players purchase, it would most likely drainn all of the character's energy with only one use. Its upgrade is the Exploding Spike, but even without the upgrade, this skill deals the most damage with one hit in the entire game.

5 Water Breath

Ori and the Will of the Wisps has a lot of underwater areas players have to go through. To make these scenes less stressful, Water Breath is one of the highest priorities when talking about abilities. It only costs 500 Spirit Light, making it one of the cheaper skills to obtain.

Buying this ability is recommended after beating the Wellspring since all underwater sequences come after that. But because of the regularity of these underwater areas, it's smart to buy it as soon as possible to avoid long and stressful minutes.

4 Blaze

Blaze is one of the coolest abilities, beloved by players, but it shrinks in comparison to Spirit Smash and Spike, making those the number one priority on the list. Blaze ignites enemies on impact, serving up to 20 damage.

But once players obtain the first few abilities, they will end up using those rather than Blaze, because those have better and quicker results, and after a while, looking cool just isn't enough when dealing with a stronger enemy.

3 Fast Travel

Fast Travel gives the players the ability to travel to any Spirit Well from almost anywhere, rather than from other Spirit Wells. This is a great asset for a lot of players who like to jump around a lot, and don't enjoy looking for those Spirit Wells.

It's not high on the priority list, because players can get around without a problem without this skill, but for the more impatient players, this is a good investment and makes the game much faster and to the point. Overall, it's a decent investment if someone has some leftover Spirit Light, but shouldn't be the first thing players buy.

2 Spirit Star

Spirit Stars can come in handy, but they have a huge setback. The ability costs 800 Spirit Light, so it's a bit on the costly side, and while it can serve damage of up to 4, with each subsequent hit on the same target, this attack gets weaker and weaker.

Some players like to use it, but it's really hard to aim with it, so the maximum of 4 damages are rarely met, making it again, energy cells wasted if a player isn't skilled or lucky enough.

1 Sentry

 

Sentry is an ability that a lot of players enjoy. Sentry makes a small, butterfly-like creature appear next to Ori and will attack any enemy close to the character. Up to 3 Sentries can be active at once, but each Sentry costs 1 energy cell.

While a lot of players like using this handy skill, it pales in comparison to Spike and Spirit Smash. While these little fairies are very cute, try as they might, they can't serve a big hit, so most of the time it will be energy cells wasted, and facing bigger enemies, they'll be useless.
