Fast Travel Games is announcing Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife, a new VR title set in the World of Darkness universe.

The newly-announced game marks the most recent video game entry into the World of Darkness universe, joining upcoming titles such as Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2World of Darkness originated as a popular tabletop RPG series in the early 90s, and has held a dedicated fanbase ever since.

In Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife, players will assume the role of the Wraith, a ghost still tied to the real world and capable of supernatural powers. The ghost is of Ed Miller, a photographer who met an untimely demise inside of the Barclay Mansion. With no memory of what happened, players must return to the mansion in order to unravel its secrets and escape. The Barclay Mansion is filled with Hollywood opulence and occult research but also harbors a dark history. Specters, or spirits of mortals who died violently, are lurking in the mansion’s halls and must be avoided.

On the official Oculus blog, Fast Travel Games revealed further details of some of the game's features, including the introduction of a guide-type character, referred to only as The Shadow. Essentially intended to function as the "devil on your shoulder," the manifestation of Ed Miller's subconscious is the player's only hope of uncovering the secrets behind his own death and the ultimate fate of his wife.

While far from the first World of Darkness title, Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife is not only the first Wraith-based video game ever, but also the first VR title set in the universe. While some gamers may have initially questioned VR's long-term viability, the market for it is as strong as ever. With Samsung filing patents for its Odyssey headset and Apple reportedly also making a VR headset, virtual reality gaming is here to stay.

Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife launches early 2021 for Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift/S, PlayStation VR, HTC Vive & Valve Index.
