Leakers have been hinting at rumors that Apple might announce a return to colorful iMac computers at their "Spring Loaded" event on April 20.

In the late '90s, Apple made a series of computers, both iMac and iBook, that were incredibly vibrant and colorful on the outside, with decent tech inside. With the shift of different colors for the iPhone and iPad, Apple might be planning a return to color for the iMac during its "Spring Loaded" event on April 20 if the tweets of a known leaker are true.

On April 17, Twitter user @L0vetodream put out a tweet that took the logo for the "Spring Loaded" event and put it right next to an old ad for the late '90s iMacs. The colors of the iMacs match the then colorful logo for Apple. The "Spring Loaded" logo displays the same colors in a much more stylized apple shape. The tweet was made with no description, just a monocle emoji. Previous tweets from the account also include that of a commercial for the color iMacs from yesteryear, labeled "memories." Shortly after the iBook, Apple transitioned to the Macbook in a clean white and moved to brushed aluminum thereafter.

As mentioned, Apple has slowly moved away from having the clean, brushed look of silver, chrome and gray, to putting out an entire series of new colors for the iPhone 12 and the latest iPad. Claims of the iMac minimizing bezels and having updated tech inside have been leaking out slowly from various YouTubers such as "Front Page Tech."

A redesign of some sort is at least expected due to the discontinuation of multiple iMac configurations. With the iMac Pro and the 21.5" 4K iMacs being removed from Apple's lineup, there is inertia being fueled by speculation of a new iMac, and possibly those being of the colorful variety.

Apple has had a habit of looking to the past for inspiration for future technology. The iPhone 12 much more resembles the iPhone 4 and 5 than the 11, as well as the latest iPads taking on a similar design. With the iMac being Apple's low to mid-level option for computing, a fresh new design could re-energize that segment and fuel sales, especially with Apple's latest chipsets, the M1, distancing itself even further from previous iterations with Intel's technology.

While multiple fan renders have found their way across the internet, there still is no definite assertion of what new technology will be announced. The excitement continues to build for Apple fans everywhere, and all eyes will be on the internet, as the "Spring Loaded" event on April 20 will start at 1:00 PM EDT.
