Life is Strange: True Colors will have DLC titled 'Wavelengths' that features Steph Gingrich and allows players a closer look at the beloved character

Life is Strange: True Colors is the upcoming game for the Life is Strange franchise. LiS first made waves with its introduction of Max Caulfield and Chloe Price in the debut game, and since then has created memorable characters for players to get to know and love. Steph Gingrich was a notable character in the LiS prequel Life is Strange: Before the Storm. She was Chloe’s friend and even had a bit of a crush on Rachel Amber. She’s an out and proud character, which is probably why so many players connected with her.

Fans who adored Steph in LiS: Before the Storm will be pleased to know that she makes a return in LiS: True Colors and not just as a side character. This time around, Steph will also be a romance option for the newest protagonist, Alex Chen. Players were already excited to see that such a great character is making a return in the series, but there’s also a DLC that lets fans play as Steph. While the entire plot of the DLC still remains to be seen, there’s enough information about it that makes fans even more excited for when Life is Strange: True Colors finally releases.

Life is Strange: Wavelengths is an extra DLC episode for the upcoming game True Colors. In this bonus episode, players will take control of Steph Gingrich and get to know her character even better than before. Wavelengths will take place a year before Alex shows up in Haven Springs, but will still release after LiS: True Colors. As far as what gameplay will look like, players can count on getting to know the KRCT radio station and Rocky Mountain Record Traders store through the eyes of Steph.

Fans will remember that Steph was the GM for a Dungeons and Dragons-esque tabletop game that Chloe can participate in during Before the Storm. Though it won’t be the exact same setup, players will see Steph reprise her role as GM when playing through Wavelengths. There’s also mention of her reconnecting with an “old friend,” so it’s possible that Mikey could make a small cameo in the bonus episode. Chloe could also appear, but that would mean one ending of LiS is considered canon over the other.

The reveal trailer also shows Steph having a prominent role in the music scene, which players will get an in-depth look at during Wavelengths. They can look forward to being a DJ for the local radio station as well as exploring the record store and even helping Steph write an original song. According to the description, the record store will change appearance with the seasons and as Steph’s personality begins to shine through, so players will seemingly always have something new to discover.

Perhaps most important is Steph’s connection to music, which will be showcased with a different soundtrack compared to True Colors. Wavelengths will feature music from Girl in Red, Hayley Kiyoko, Alt-J, and other artists to help set the tone of Steph’s journey. Players can also look forward to swiping through Steph’s dating app and getting inside her head as she reminisces about different Pride celebrations she’s attended through the years. There’s no word about what the dating app matches will mean in terms of gameplay, but it will be interesting to see how they play out during Wavelengths.

Many fans were already excited for Life is Strange: True Colors because of the newest protagonist, Alex Chen, and the fact the game is breaking from its episodic tradition by making the game available to play all at once. Now players can have even more fun in the world of Haven Springs but through the eyes of a different, well-loved character.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm releases September 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
