The Japanese release date for Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel, the next title in Konami's long-running franchise, is set for later this year.

When it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh! games, Konami has cornered the market. The company has long been the franchise's sole publisher, pumping out titles since the late 90s. Last year, the newest game in the series was revealed, based on the seventh anime series. Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel is currently in development for the Switch, and a release date has just been announced.

Japanese players who are ready to duel can pick up the latest Yu-Gi-Oh! game on August 12, 2021, and pre-orders will open later on this month on April 22. All pre-orders will come with an amiibo card, and first-print copies will include three exclusive physical cards. The game will follow the events of Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS, so players can expect to encounter familiar characters and experience moments from the show. The anime hasn't been localized for western audiences, and there's no word yet if Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel will be released outside of Japan.

Over the years, there have been numerous changes to how the Yu-Gi-Oh! games are played. A Rush Duel, for example, changes things up quite a bit, allowing players the ability to normal summon as many monsters as they like. These new rules will be part of the gameplay of Rush Duels when it releases.

Konami has put out a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh! titles, dating all the way back to the Game Boy Advance. Those who have played a title on the Switch know how perfect the console's touchscreen is for the playstyle of card-based games. Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel should be a natural fit when it releases later this year.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel will release in Japan for the Nintendo Switch on August 12, 2021.
