A GTA 5 fan takes the time to calculate the number of fatalities required for players to complete the game, coming up with a shocking amount.

Even the most pacifistic, traffic-obeying fan of Grand Theft Auto 5 won't be able to finish the game without getting their hands dirty. One GTA 5 fan took the time to tally up every necessary kill, coming up to an overwhelming number of mandatory deaths by the end of the game.

Grand Theft Auto 5 has already seen tons of attention on Twitch with the popularity of GTA roleplaying servers. Now that the sandbox title is available on Xbox Game Pass for the second time, players are taking the opportunity to explore everything they can. While fans won't find any hints regarding the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 embedded in the kill count, it is a pretty interesting fact to look into by itself.

Redditor TK-57 utilized a fully-recorded playthrough of Grand Theft Auto 5 that was deliberate in avoiding encounters, choosing stealth whenever possible and running away from fights. The playthrough even had the player navigate through Los Santos without killing one pedestrian, but still comes with a chapter-by-chapter body count that adds up to a staggering 726 kills.

When split up according to character, Michael came in with the lowest number of bodies, hitting only 172. Trevor stayed true to his character, taking down 258 enemies, and Franklin came out as the most aggressive at 295 kills. Together, the trio took down one foe as a team. Some commenters believe the player could have avoided even more kills or left them for NPCs to handle, although the number likely wouldn't go down much. Either way, there's no way to get through the game without things getting a bit messy.

Then again, players love GTA for being as violent and high-octane as possible. Some politicians still feel fit to try and ban Grand Theft Auto despite it being one of the best-selling games of all time, so it's clear the series will never lose its controversial nature. That same nature, in addition to it's roleplaying elements, are what made GTA a household name.

Hate it or love it, Grand Theft Auto 5 has shown its staying power as a video game among titles like League of Legends and Fortnite. With the popularity of the NoPixel server boosting viewership of the game, and hype for Grand Theft Auto 6 running deep, the franchise will likely never fall out of the hearts of its devoted fanbase.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
