Kenan Thompson has stated that he believes Disney's 'Home Alone' reboot is very close to wrapping up, despite pandemic complications.

Those who were paying close attention during Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox may remember that there was a lot more than just the X-Men on the line for The Mouse. While the big talk surrounding the deal was all about the MCU and how to re-integrate the X-Men characters, Disney picked up a lot of classic IP and names during that merger, and also announced some new projects in those franchises as well, with one of those announcements being a reboot of Home Alone.

As most will remember, the first Home Alone starred a young Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, who is left at home by accident while his family goes off on vacation. Unfortunately for him, his house is the latest target for some local robbers, and now he has to defend his home with whatever he can scrounge up. The series was then followed up with Home Alone 2, which is also fondly remembered, and then by several more sequels which are not exactly classics.

Considering the last film came out in 2012, Home Alone was definitely a franchise with reboot potential. In fact, the series had already gone through at least one soft-reboot, as Culkin didn't star in any of the films after 2 and the latter Home Alone projects were more spiritual successors than direct sequels. So Disney had a lot of wiggle room for how to approach the project.

Nobody had heard much of the Home Alone since then, however, partially due to the pandemic, which has made filming and production difficult, and understandably slowed the rate at which newsworthy developments were happening. Now, it seems like the project may be closer than people realized, as actor Kenan Thompson revealed that he thinks the project is close to wrapping up during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

While the actor admits that the pandemic disrupted the production and it's difficult to say for sure where everything is at, he believes things are headed towards the finish line: "I think they're getting very close to finishing it. And I did like ADR for it recently, and that’s usually one of the last steps." That's good news for those who've been waiting to see what's going on with this new Home Alone reboot, as it suggests the studio might be fairly close to releasing some kind of trailer or promotional material.

Whatever the project ends up looking like, it's good to know that it's at least wrapping up safely and that fans will get to see more. Hopefully, it ends up capturing the spirit of the original Home Alone films, while also having been worth the trouble of powering through production during the pandemic.

Home Alone will be available on Disney Plus.
