Respawn Entertainment's game director reveals Apex Legends Mobile in a blog post detailing the team's plan to begin rolling out regional betas.

Respawn and EA are revealing some major changes coming to Apex Legends next month with the start of Season 9's "Legacy" content. Along with the new Legend Kairi "Valkyrie" Imahara coming in Legacy, there will also be tweaks to the Olympus map and the addition of the Bocek Bow to the weapon pool.

On top of all the new content coming to Apex Legends, Respawn made a surprise reveal in a recent blog post on the game's official website. Apex Legends game director Chad Grenier revealed Apex Legends Mobile in a post announcing regional beta tests for the game will be starting soon.

The post was made public shortly after Valkyrie's "Stories from the Outlands" reveal trailer premiered on the official Apex Legends YouTube channel. Grenier begins the post by confirming that the first regional beta tests for Apex Legends Mobile will begin later this month. According to Grenier, the team is "keeping things small to start" and is rolling out the beta to a few thousand players in both India and the Philippines. However, over the course of the year Respawn is planning to bring the game to more regions and players in other parts of the world.

Next, Grenier touches on perhaps one of the most important aspects of this announcement: Apex Legends Mobile seems to be a completely separate Apex Legends title. In the post, Grenier states that, "it's a new version of Apex Legends" but affirms this mobile version will remain true to the original. According to the post, Apex Legends Mobile is being designed specifically for touchscreen use, and will include streamlined controls and optimizations for mobile devices. As for what this means for Apex Legends on console and PC, Grenier makes it clear that those versions of Apex Legends will continue on as normal with major things in store with Season 9's approach.

The post ends with a brief FAQ portion that goes over a few of the most pressing questions fans may have following the announcement. As for when Apex Legends Mobile will be available in certain regions, the post states that the first beta tests in India and the Philippines will begin in Spring 2021 on Android devices only. The team will continue testing and eventually expand the size and regions of those tests, as well as implement iOS support. For now, fans will have to wait for further beta tests to be announced in the future.

Additionally, the FAQ confirms that Apex Legends Mobile will be free-to-play just like the other versions of the game, but will not feature cross-play with the PC or console versions of Apex Legends. Finally, the FAQ reveals that the regular Apex Legends team is also working on Apex Legends Mobile alongside "other partners" which the FAQ does not detail further. Earlier this year, rumors claimed that Tencent was helming Apex Legends' mobile version, but this FAQ appears to put them to bed. Interested fans will have to keep their eyes on Respawn for further details surrounding Apex Legends Mobile.

Apex Legends Mobile is currently in development.
