The next big update for The Division 2 arrives shortly, and will bring the Resident Evil crossover as well as a next-gen visual upgrade.

The Division 2 released almost two years ago now, but the game's developers are still updating it relatively regularly. Those updates now include an upcoming next-gen upgrade for The Division 2.

Dedicated players of Ubisoft's looter shooter knew the upgrade was arriving at some point. The Division 2 devs announced a patch for the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 last month. It turns out the fanbase isn't going to have to wait long to see what the title looks like on the newest consoles available.

On Wednesday, Ubisoft Massive community developer Johan Lindholm announced on Twitter what is coming to the game in the very near future. He first announced there wasn't going to be a State of the Game on Thursday, after one of his followers asked for any news. In lieu of the cancellation, Lindholm announced Title Update 12.1 is dropping on February 2, and it's bringing quite a bit of content with it. TU 12.1 will include the Resident Evil crossover content. The community manager also divulged that the update is going to include a rebalancing of the Optimization Station, and finally 4K 60 FPS support for next-gen consoles.

Much like the next-gen upgrades, the Resident Evil crossover event wasn't announced all that long ago. In fact, the event, which will let The Division 2 players grab outfits and weapon skins themed around Capcom’s long-running horror series, was announced as part of the Resident Evil showcase last week. When it was announced, there wasn't a launch date, but Lindholm took care of that detail with his tweet. Those who want to get their hands on the new gear will be able to log in starting next Tuesday and claim their items before crossover ends on February 15.

As for the release of the next-gen updates for The Division 2, there isn't much known about it, beyond the boost in graphics fidelity. It does appear that since Ubisoft Massive is talking about 4K 60 frames-per-second, this particular upgrade is coming only to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. There was no mention of a separate potential update for the Xbox Series S. The smaller "budget" next-generation console's highest resolution reaches just 1080p.

While Ubisoft Massive continues offering support and Title Updates for The Division 2, the development team also recently started work on a brand new Star Wars game. There isn't much information available about the new game, though the company did announce it will be an open-world, story-driven game. Among the question marks surrounding the project is any inkling about a release date.

The Division 2 is available now on Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
