The past several years have left fans wondering about the future of Metal Gear Solid, but a collection of the series might be Konami's safest bet.

Many fans are concerned about the future of the Metal Gear Solid series. After a contentious split between publisher Konami and series creator Hideo Kojima following the release of Metal Gear Solid 5the future of the series has been in somewhat of a limbo state. Among backlash about the ending of the last mainline game and cancellations plaguing some spin-off properties (with one critically panned one releasing), rumors have been swirling about a possible collection of remastered Metal Gear Solid games for modern consoles. If these rumors prove true, that may be the most prudent move for Konami to make with its cult-classic franchise.

Rumors have been floating around about a Metal Gear Solid remake or collection of remasters to be brought to modern consoles, specifically the PS5. The strongest rumors point towards a deal between Sony and Konami to have Bluepoint Games create a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation 5. With many fans concerned about the future of the franchise without the Kojima touch, capitalizing on nostalgia and games that are already highly regarded might be the best move for Konami to make with its iconic IP.

Metal Gear Solid is a treasured franchise for many fans, but fans haven't been treated too well. A Metal Gear Solid board game was officially cancelled recently, with hope of its release now up in the air as its producer looks to other funding options. This felt like a nail in the coffin for many fans that had given up hope of a Metal Gear Solid 6 after the schism in 2015. Even while fans still opine for a new release, many others would likely shun any future Metal Gear project that didn't involve creator Hideo Kojima.

Konami is more than likely aware of the large swath of Metal Gear devotees that would pan any game without Kojima's involvement. It would stand to reason then that the publisher knows that capitalizing on nostalgia and love for the franchise will be their safest move to keep the series alive while the dust continues to settle. With a recent Twitter announcement seemingly teasing a Metal Gear Solid announcement soon after months of leaks and rumors about a remake, it's probably going to be an announcement of either a remake, series of remakes, or a remastered collection. Hopefully, anyway.

Konami likely knows that it needs to handle Metal Gear Solid with care, and is unlikely to take undue risks with a franchise that is so important to such a large group of players. But right now all fans have to work with are rumors, leaks, and strange tweets from the Metal Gear Solid account. It seems more than plausible that a collection or a remake is coming, but the specifics of it are still a mystery. But with a franchise that has had such a turbulent last several years, and one that is so closely tied to a specific creative like Kojima, a remastered collection for Metal Gear Solid would be Konami's safest move going forward.

Metal Gear Solid is rumored to receive a remake or remaster in the future.
