Pietro is the subject of heated debates in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community, sometimes considered one of the most horrifying villagers.

Pietro sees a widely split opinion among the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community due to his adorable clown design. Though the rainbow-colored sheep is terrifying to some, others adore his positive and sweet personality. Sometimes, Pietro runs for millions of bells in trades, and other times, he's harassed by the owners of the islands he resides on. He's often the subject of heated debates in the Animal Crossing community. Even his profile in Pocket Camp explains that while some folks think Pietro looks charming, most are "creeped out" by him.

Though the name Pietro doesn't have any connections with being a clown in English, it's thought that the Italian name is a play on the word piero in Japanese, the loanword for "clown," though his name in the Japanese versions of Animal Crossing is pronounced "juppetti." "Pierrot" is also the name of a French pantomime clown character with a white face. Additionally, players think that his name might be a play on the phrase "pie throw" as well, an act clowns are known for doing.

Pietro first appeared in the Animal Crossing franchise in New Leaf but also appears in the mobile spinoff Pocket Camp. However, his appearance changed slightly between the two games in the coloration of his wool. But generally, his New Horizons design is softer and less abrasively bright than his New Leaf theme, as is the interior of Pietro's home. New Leaf seemed to play on the terrifying clown persona a bit, judging by the grayscale wallpaper surrounding rainbow objects.

But in New Horizons, Pietro's home is far more comforting, replacing the disturbing illusion wallpaper and flooring with the Sky Wall and Cloud Flooring. While much of the furniture is the same, he also owns the coveted moon chairs used by many popular Animal Crossing islands. Though he originally wore a Dawn Tee in New Leaf and Pocket Camp, his new default clothes are the Jester Costume, much more cohesive with his general design. Likewise, his original phrase is "honk honk" and his favorite K.K. Slider number is "K.K. Parade."

Surprisingly, Pietro is considered a smug villager in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, being very polite and kind to most other villagers around him, but will stroke his ego from time to time and call himself "cool." He conflicts with most cranky villagers but gets along best with lazy, normally, snooty, and peppy villagers.

The rainbow sheep is an Aries and his birthday just recently passed on April 19. If the player wants to gift him an item for his birthday or otherwise, Pietro favors Gorgeous and Simple styles, and his favorite colors are red or clothing considered colorful, such as Mom's Hand-Knit Sweater and the Bunny Day Egg Party Dress.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now for Nintendo Switch.
