Treyarch is getting Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans excited about the future of Zombies, as two major additions are currently in the works.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 3 may be light on Zombies content, but it seems like Season 3 Reloaded and Season 4 will be more eventful. Treyarch has officially confirmed that Outbreak’s main easter egg quest is coming during Season 3, with the next Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Survival map set to arrive soon after.

Before these major updates come, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans will have time to enjoy Outbreak’s new region and Field Upgrade. The open-world mode will be seeing player exploring Duga, a Russian satellite array seen in the campaign. As for the Field Upgrade, Toxic Growth will see Zombies fans using vines as a weapon, with the plant-based attack slowing down the undead and causing them to explode once upgraded. Several gameplay improvements will also be made to Outbreak.

For players looking forward to some more exciting content, though, Outbreak’s main quest could be exciting. While the first minor Outbreak easter egg was added to the game in Season 2 Reloaded, the upcoming main quest will be much more involved. Likely involving some unique mechanics, complex puzzles, and specific story beats across all of Outbreak’s current maps, fans have been interested to see what the large-scale quest could be like. As it turns out, they may not be waiting much longer.

A blog post on Treyarch’s website further detailed the content for Season 3, including the Outbreak main quest. While details are limited, Treyarch has confirmed that it will be coming “later in the season.” With every season getting a midseason update, and a midseason event listed on Season 3’s roadmap, Season 3 Reloaded will likely be when players get to complete the easter egg. Treyarch also confirmed that the quest will set up some major events for the next Survival map.

Considering that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies currently suffering from a lack of Survival maps, this teaser is exciting. Though Treyarch did not confirm when the map will come, it is “currently in the works.” Assuming that Season 3 Reloaded does indeed bring the main quest easter egg to Outbreak, Season 4 seems like it would be a perfect fit for the new Survival map. With a Berlin map heavily teased by Zombies intel and seen in the game’s code, players will likely be heading to Germany next Season. There have been rumors of the classic map Kino Der Toten being incorporated into Berlin's design, too, something that could make its release even more appealing.

With the Outbreak easter egg tying “directly into the narrative” for the next round-based release, Call of Duty Zombies fans have a lot to look forward to. With so much potential available in an Outbreak main quest, hopefully the easter egg can live up to the hype.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
