Phantasy Star Online 2 players are in for a treat, as the game is soon going to get its biggest update yet. Rather than introduce a new episode for players to experience, Sega is instead opting to overhaul the entire experience. The ultimate goal of this is to modernize the game and to help make it more accessible to new players, but it's coming with a bunch of new features as well.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is set to release this year (June 2021) in celebration of the 20 year anniversary of the Phantasy Star franchise. To make matters even better, players will be able to freely switch back and forth between the original Phantasy Star Online 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. For players that prefer the old way of doing things, there is no requirement to switch over.

Aside from a major graphical improvement, actual gameplay systems will be changing as well in Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. Sega hasn't gone too in depth about specific changes, but the story is supposedly sest 1000 years in the future from the original game. Even so, players will be able to use their existing characters in the new experience.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is launching for Japan and Global services simultaneously in June 2021, and it will remain free to play just like the original version. There are plans for continuous support for the new update, so it seems like Phantasy Star Online 2 is here to stay. More will likely be announced in the near future, so stay tuned.
