Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista says he was disappointed that his character Drax didn’t get to kill Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista recently revealed he was disappointed that his character Drax the Destroyer wasn’t the one who killed James Brolin’s ThanosBautista was cast as Dax in 2013 and has played the iconic character in four MCU films to date, including Avengers: Endgame.

Drax was created by comic book writer Jim Starlin and first appeared in 1973’s The Invincible Iron Man. The character made his live-action debut in James Gunn’s Guardians of the GalaxyIn the films, Drax seeks vengeance on Ronan the Accuser for invading his homeworld and killing his wife and daughter. After exacting revenge on Ronan, Drax declares Thanos to be his next target.

Bautista's Drax never ended up getting the opportunity to take down the supervillain who was responsible for the death of his family. The warrior was turned into a pile of blocks when he confronted Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. While Drax played an important role in the defeat of Thanos, it was Tony Stark who used the Infinity Stones to disintegrate the villain. During a recent interview with JoBlo, Bautista asserted that Dax deserved to be the one who killed Thanos, saying, “I said in interviews somewhere where that I wish Drax would’ve killed Thanos and I got all these people saying, ‘That doesn’t even make sense! How could you say that? Drax doesn’t deserve to get to kill Thanos!’” The Marvel star was disappointed because the storyline is very personal to him. “Of course Drax wanted to kill Thanos,” he said while adding, “But, I think every character wanted to get their hands on Thanos.”

Marvel fans shouldn’t expect a Drax Dinsey Plus spin-off series anytime soon. The former WWE wrestler made news for stating that he wouldn’t star in a Drax series because he’d be miserable wearing make-up every day. While a series is off the table, Bautista will be playing Dax in Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film will begin filming later this year. Disney reinstated franchise creator James Gunn to direct the installment after he was fired for past Tweets. The third Guardians film is expected to wrap up the characters’ MCU arcs and be the final chapter in the Guardians franchise.

Bautista will next be seen in the upcoming Zack Snyder (Justice League, Man of Steel) zombie heist film Army of the Dead. The Netflix film will see a group of mercenaries venture into the quarantine zone and attempt to pull off a casino heist amid a zombie outbreak. The large ensemble cast includes Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Omari Hardwick (Power), Tig Notaro (One Mississippi), and Ana de la Reguera (Narcos). A prequel film (Army of Thieves) and anime series (Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas) of the film are also in the works.

Avengers: Endgame is now available on Disney Plus.
