A professional wrestling fan makes a rather depressing discovery about the latest game in the WWE 2K series, the critically-panned WWE 2K20.

Almost every year, shortly after WrestleMania, WWE does what fans have dubbed the "Spring Cleaning." The Spring Cleaning is where the WWE releases superstars and other employees in bulk, with the latest WWE Spring Cleaning seeing the releases of Samoa Joe, Billie Kay, Mickie James, and a variety of other wrestlers. WWE has released so many wrestlers the last couple of years that it's actually possible for fans to do an entire 30-man Royal Rumble Match in WWE 2K20 using only released superstars.

This was discovered by Twitter user Fiend4Follows. They put together a Royal Rumble Match consisting entirely of superstars who are no longer with the WWE. This includes quite a few people who have since jumped ship to WWE's rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling, like Rusev, Big Show, Matt Hardy, Christian, Dash Wilder, and Scott Dawson. While something like this is bound to happen for any old WWE video game, WWE 2K20 being the latest entry in the series makes it sting a little bit more for fans.

WWE 2K20 launched in late 2019 to overwhelmingly negative reviews. Fans and critics alike panned WWE 2K20 for being a broken mess at launch, leading to some major shake-ups behind the scenes. The decision was made to cancel plans for WWE 2K21 so that the Visual Concepts development team could get an extra year to work on the next entry in the series, the upcoming WWE 2K22.

When WWE 2K22 comes out, it should feature an updated roster that more accurately reflects WWE's current roster, though it too will likely have some wrestlers who are no longer with WWE. At the time of this writing, very little is actually known about WWE 2K22's roster, though, so it's possible that the most recently released superstars will be pulled from the game before it launches later this year.

To date, only two superstars have been confirmed for the WWE 2K22 roster. The brief WWE 2K22 gameplay teaser trailer that was shown at WrestleMania 37 showed Rey Mysterio hitting Cesaro with the 619, so WWE fans can count on the two of them being featured in the game. The rest of the active WWE roster will likely make the cut as well.

Until WWE 2K22 comes out, the latest WWE game fans can play is WWE 2K20 with its outdated roster. Hopefully the extra development time taken for WWE 2K22 results in a higher-quality game, but it's far too early to make any judgment calls.

WWE 2K20 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
