Koei Tecmo releases a new trailer for its upcoming Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection, showcasing the series' signature intense combat.

A new trailer has been released for the highly anticipated Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection. The trailer for the remastered trilogy showcases plenty of intense hack-and-slash action, courtesy of the series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa.

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja's notoriously difficult ninja action RPG series is set to make its return to modern consoles in just a few months. The developers first announced the port of the Ninja Gaiden series during a Nintendo Direct in February, where it was confirmed that not just one, but all three of the "reboot" entries would be included

While the trailer lasts just a couple of minutes, practically every second is filled with nonstop action. Viewers will first see Ryu in the typical situation most Ninja Gaiden players find themselves in - chaining together brutal sword attacks against multiple enemies, all while frantically jumping, blocking, and dodging in order to stay alive. In addition to utilizing the signature Dragon Sword, the trailer showcases Hayabusa's weapon versatility, with the ninja utilizing a scythe, dual swords, kusarigama, and more. The second half of the trailer appears to shift more towards Fiends, which function as a type of boss, with fans getting a particularly good look at the boss battle with the Buddha Statue from the second game.

The trilogy will bring together the three games from the rebooted Ninja Gaiden series, but astute fans will notice that the developers are using the Sigma versions of the first two games, rather than Ninja Gaiden Black or Ninja Gaiden 2. The decision to include the "stripped down" versions of the first two titles wasn't made by choice, but out of necessity. According to Team Ninja, the source code for the titles in question were reportedly "unsalvageable," leading to the inclusion of the PS3 Sigma ports.

Although largely dormant for the past several years, the Ninja Gaiden series has seen a bit of a resurgence in popularity as of late, with gamer's appetites growing for challenging Dark Souls-like titles. Rumors of Ryu Hayabusa joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have been swirling as well, exacerbated by the upcoming trilogy re-release. According to Team Ninja's brand manager Fumihiko Yasuda in an interview with Famitsu stated the team is well aware of fans' desire for Ryu to join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. His response (to Nintendo), presumably mirroring the team's is, "We are waiting for your invitation."

Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection releases on June 10 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
