Respawn Entertainment is looking for people to work on a new video game, and while many would expect that to mean that Titanfall 3 is on the horizon, it turns out that development is starting on a new IP.
The developer of Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment, has been hitting home runs in the first-person shooter genre for a long time now. Many fans have become desperate for a sequel to Titanfall 2, as it has been nearly five years since its release in October of 2016. With the five-year mark officially looming in 2021, fans were possibly expecting some sort of announcement regarding a new Titanfall game, especially with Apex Legends being such a massive money-maker for Respawn in recent years.

A tweet from Steven Kah Hien Wong, a programmer at Respawn Entertainment, asked "Want to get in early and help build a new IP from scratch? We're a team of *5* right now looking for our 6th (a coder)!" This was posted with a link to a job advertisement, showing that Respawn Entertainment is looking for a software engineer to join a team working on a new IP that is under development, unfortunately for who have been pleading for a Titanfall 2 sequel.
The job advertisement posted by Wong was later retweeted by Vincent Zampella, the head of Respawn Entertainment, with the message "Looking for an exciting new opportunity? New Respawn project, super exciting stuff. Get in early!" The job description itself is looking for someone who can "Pioneer new ways to enable 'adventuring until the heat death of the universe'," and suggests that if one wants to join them, they should "love building, playing and understanding games."
Respawn Entertainment still appears to be looking for people to join its Apex Legends team, with several software engineer positions available on its careers page. This seems to indicate that while development will be beginning on Respawn Entertainment's new IP, the company intends to continue updating and patching Apex Legends for a while into the future. With season nine of Apex Legends underway, and new hero Valkyrie added to the roster of playable characters, it doesn't seem like development is slowing on the hit battle royale.
Development on Apex Legends may indeed be the key aspect to Respawn Entertainment not working on Titanfall 3, as in all likelihood, the Apex team would be the ones to handle any future Titanfall projects. If a new IP is being made, along with continual updates for Apex Legends and the new Apex Legends mobile game, it could mean that fans will have to wait several more years before Titanfall 3 could potentially enter development.
Many of the responses to the tweets regarding the job openings for Respawn Entertainment's new IP were melancholy, with fans lamenting the potential loss of hope for the release of Titanfall 3. However, given the popularity of the Titanfall franchise, and the constant Titanfall content making its way into Apex Legends, it would be premature to assume that Respawn Entertainment wouldn't want to capitalize on Titanfall eventually, especially if the player count for Apex Legends were to decrease.
