The latest Story of Seasons game is idyllic as ever, but fixing a few issues in Pioneers of Olive Town would take the game from good to great.

Fans of the series had been waiting on this title for a long time. Finally, it's time to dive back into this homey world and build up the community again. However, the series has undergone some changes recently, and this title was their chance to show that the quality would keep up.

Now, no game is perfect, but Pioneers of Olive Town has some issues that take away from the Story of Seasons world. Developers have acknowledged this and are rolling out patches to slowly work their way back. The fastest way to make it better is to point out the most pressing issues currently in the game. Here's what players most want to see fixed in this charming game.

10 Character Dialogue

One on the biggest parts of the Story of Seasons brand is the immersive characters that the player gets to know along the way. It sets the tone the many hours they're going to spend building up the town.

Pioneers of Olive Town makes almost every character feel like the player is talking to an NPC with no real depth. For most fans, this is last thing they want in a game that relies on a cozy vibe. It looks like the developers are working to fix, this but it's a big hole to patch when it effects most characters the player talks to.

9 Lag/Frame Rate

Something most people wouldn't expect from such a laid back game is a lot of lag and frame rate drops. After all, it's not like things are moving at a lightning fast pace. However, those that have been playing since launch have noticed that right when things start getting interesting, the frame rates start dipping.

While this isn't a pressing issue in the grand scheme of things, it sure does take players out of the game. Just when they get into riding a horse and exploring the huge area, all of a sudden the character starts moving like a flip book.

8 Maker Madness

This may be the biggest complaint in the entire game, and for good reason. Players need a maker for just about everything. Separate makers for every variation of item in the game means that these items will eventually take up a good amount of space on the farm.

Besides the fact that it's not exactly a great look, constantly moving from maker to maker for one item at a time is incredibly tedious. The next big patch has been confirmed to be addressing the issue, so fingers crossed.

7 Slow Moving Tasks

Pioneers of Olive Town is meant to be a slow-paced game. Yet, most fans also want to spend some time doing other activities. This game takes a little too much time for some of the most basic tasks, slowing it down to a crawl and turning relaxing to frustrating.

Farming a big crop can feel rewarding if the process is paced right. However, dragging out an already measured task out just ends in boredom. The grind of maintaining an ever-growing farm shouldn't feel like a race against the clock.

6 Dull Festivals

One of the highlights of the series, festivals in Story of Seasons games have always been a big event. They bring the whole town together and give players some excitement.

This time around, things feel a little too spaced out. There's plenty of vacant room that could have been filled with so much more fun. It's a pretty big disappointment for those that were looking forward to the festivals of old. All in all, these events could use more life in them.

5 It's Hard To Get Started

Players must both live with and fight against nature in order to grow their farm in Story of Seasons. This is made even more important by the game starting players off from scratch this time. There's no pre-built farm or house to base out of.

Nature seems to be especially resistant, growing back at a rapid rate without giving players a chance to build at the beginning of the game. This leads to players spending a lot of the first year trying to get control of the land before setting up shop.

4 Marriage Issues

This might be a case of a franchise suffering from their previous success, but this game's bachelors and bachelorettes don't seem to be up to par. It can always be fixed with a few new introductions, but the drop in quality takes away from the partner choice in-game.

With 10 bachelors and bachelorettes to choose from, Pioneers of Olive Town has two more slots left before it hits the numbers from older games in the series. If the other issues get fixed, then it wouldn't be as noticeable. For now though, it's just another thing to add to the pile.

3 The Curfew

While this isn't a problem exclusive to this game, it's frustrating to have a cap on the time the player can explore and build the farm. It cuts off a lot of content that could have happened in the night.

Not to mention, the cozy vibe of the game would really shine in the dark, taking away all the unknown and roaming through the expansive area. Taking away the curfew would be a great step into populating the game. It could fill in some of the vacant parts that leave too much space in the story.

2 Storage

Much like the maker situation, storage boxes become a big problem once the player really starts to collect items. Instead of being able to upgrade one box to hold more items, players will have to constantly make new boxes that litter the farm. This makes organization a nightmare.

Upgrading boxes to hold more items would declutter the entire process. With the challenges of fighting back nature and managing so many other moving parts, storage should be the last thing on the player's mind.

1 Crafting Recipes

Crafting recipes are a great feature. They let players see exactly what they need to put their crafting skills to use, laying out all the ingredients in a straight line. The problem comes from the several different recipes for very small differences.

This kind of crafting system takes a useful feature and makes it complicated for no reason. No one wants to gather separate materials for different kinds of wool. Cutting the list down and simplifying would help move players' focus into some more useful tasks.
