Many Pokemon fans have forgotten the unique team of Pokemon Red caught during the initial run of the manga.

Pokemon Red Version, Pokemon Green Version, and Pokemon Blue Version released in 1996 and were the first games in the franchise. They quickly took the world by storm, getting many adaptations shortly after, such as the anime and trading card game. Pokemon Adventures is a manga adaptation that released only a year after the games came out, and is one of the most accurate adaptations to the games despite not being the most popular.

The manga's first arc was called the Red, Green & Blue arc, which consists of the first three volumes. Red, the main character of this arc, is based on the playable character from the games. He's caught a lot of Pokemon, and here are all of the ones fans can see him catch in volumes 1-3.

10 Nidorino

Nidorino was the first Pokemon that readers see Red catch in the Red, Green & Blue arc. A group of children were trying to catch Nidorino but kept failing to do so as they threw Pokeballs at it without using Pokemon to fight it. Red demonstrated how to properly catch a Pokemon by having his Poliwhirl (which he had caught before the Red, Green & Blue arc took place) use Water Gun on Nidorino. He then threw a Pokeball and caught Nidorino.

As this takes place in the first chapter of the series, it was a great way to show newcomers of the franchise how characters obtain the pocket monsters. However, Nidorino barely made an appearance in the rest of the series.

9 Pikachu

When a Pikachu was stealing food from the citizens of Pewter City, they tried to get rid of it. Red found out and had his Bulbasaur (which he received from Professor Oak rather than actually catching it) fight the Pikachu. Bulbasaur used Sleep Powder, allowing Red to catch Pikachu off guard. Similar to Ash's relationship with his Pikachu at the beginning of the anime, it took a while for Red and the electric mouse to get along. Once they did, however, they became a great team, with Pikachu being one of the pocket monsters Red spent the most time with.

8 Bellsprout

Red has caught multiple Bellsprouts throughout the Red, Green & Blue arc, though none of them were too important to the story. After he left Cerulean City, Red decided to catch a lot of Pokemon, though the only one fans saw him capture was Bellsprout.

Later on in the story, Red went to the Safari Zone and caught most of the Pokemon there, including other Bellsprouts, as well as its evolutions, Weepinbell and Victreebel. The other Pokemon he caught at the Safari Zone were Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Parasect, and Exeggcute.

7 Fearow

After Bill accidentally turned himself into a Rattata, he was captured by a Fearow. Red witnessed this and had his Pokemon save Bill, resulting in the two becoming friends. Once Fearow was defeated, Red was able to catch it behind Bill's back. After Bill was able to get his new friend to turn him back into a human, he saw that Fearow had been caught, scaring him.

6 Snorlax

When Red competed in a bike race, he and a couple of the other participants found a Snorlax blocking their path. Once Red woke Snorlax up, the giant Pokemon chased the trainer. Not having any time to slow down, Red was able to win the race but had to spend the money he earned on feeding Snorlax, who he then caught.

5 Diglett

After running into Blue, their Pokemon were accidentally swapped. While Blue trained Red's Pokemon for three days, Red could barely befriend Blue's Charmeleon, Machoke, Scyther, Golduck, or Pidgeot. However, they were able to help him catch a couple of Pokemon, one of which being Diglett. Though Red held onto Diglett for a while, it didn't appear in the manga much.

4 Krabby

Krabby was caught at around the same time Diglett was as Red still had Blue's Pokemon. Like Diglett, it is unknown how Krabby was caught and which of Blue's Pokemon was willing to listen to Red's commands. Krabby didn't stay with Red for long as the trainer traded it with Misty for her Gyarados, which Red had helped her get back after Team Rocket stole it earlier in the series.

3 Eevee

After a gym leader named Erika found out that Team Rocket had experimented on an Eevee, having it be able to switch between each of its evolutions at will, she sent Red on a quest to catch the Eevee.

Not knowing anything about the Pokemon he was sent to capture, Red asked Bill to help him, and the two were shocked to find a Pokemon that could switch between fire, electric, and water types. After catching it, Red fought Erika, thinking she was going to hurt the Pokemon. However, the whole thing turned out to be a misunderstanding and she allowed Red to keep Eevee.

2 Sandshrew

Despite fighting Team Rocket throughout the entire arc, Red didn't know that Giovanni was the leader of his enemies the first time they met. In fact, Giovanni even pretended to be Red's friend and the two of them had hoped they found Pokemon fossils. To figure out if they did or if they had simply collected some rocks, they went to the Pewter City Museum.

However, when they got there, they discovered that it was set on fire by two Magmar. To stop them, Red used Sandshrew, which he had caught just before then, though readers didn't get to see it. Sandshrew was able to temporarily stop the Magmar, and left with Red afterward, as Giovanni stayed behind and killed them.

1 Mewtwo

Giovanni isn't the only member of Team Rocket that was with Red when he caught a Pokemon. The last one he caught in this arc was Mewtwo, which was created by Team Rocket. The head scientist that brought Mewtwo to life, Blaine, regretted his actions and betrayed Team Rocket, becoming friends with Red.

Trying to stop Mewtwo from destroying Cerulean City, the two teamed up to catch it. By sending all of his other Pokemon out at once, Red was able to trick Mewtwo into letting Pikachu get close enough to it to catch it in a Master Ball, so this may technically be Pikachu's Pokemon more than Red's. Regardless, Red decided to give Mewtwo back to Blaine and told him to teach his creation how to be good.
