One of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies' biggest issues thus far has been with XP, as Treyarch has struggled to reward players with proper progression inside the mode. Various bugs have also seen XP earn rates lowered, with another one of these glitches appearing in Season 3 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s latest patch made several positive changes to the game’s lineup of weapons, creating a more balanced experience in multiplayer matches. For Zombies, weapon unlock challenges were finally brought to the mode, allowing players to unlock all the post-launch content without having to play PvP modes. This change was received well by fans, as was the patch note mentioning an increase in XP for Zombies. Unfortunately, the opposite has happened.

This Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War progression bug sees Zombies fans getting far less XP despite being promised more, with fans like NoAimMassacre detailing their experience on Reddit. Pointing out that an Outbreak match lasting over an hour only saw the player leveling up from level 2 to level 4, something is clearly not right about the mode’s progression. Beyond just level XP, NoAimMassacre and several commenters have pointed out that weapon XP has slowed as well.

One particularly bothersome aspect of this bug is that it has happened right before a double XP weekend, something that was seen with the previous Zombies progression issue. Further, the problem is not only limited to Outbreak, as Redditor Not-My-Wolf has documented that the slowed XP exists in regular Survival as well. Playing a match of Die Maschine, the Zombies fan has not even reached level 3 despite being 26 rounds in. Redditor DontPrayForMe comments about a similar problem, only they are stuck at level 1 despite being on round 25.

Unfortunately, there seems to be another aspect to the ongoing XP issues. Redditor DerRedViper has shared that they lost three full levels on two separate occasions. A major setback, the issue is supported by ASpecialSadBoi who also claims to have lost levels. Clearly, Call of Duty Zombies fans are struggling in many ways when it comes to XP, though Treyarch community manager FoxhoundFPS has promised that the studio is investigating the issues and working on a fix. No ETA has been provided for the patch, however, so fans will need to keep an eye on future updates from Treyarch.

For now, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players may want to avoid Zombies for the time being if they are trying to level up. As of now, it seems like multiplayer progression is working as intended, so trying out the new 6v6 maps may prove more beneficial for leveling up.
