Genshin Impact features a handful of weapon types. Here's a look at every one of them, ranked by how useful they are.

One of the most important choices you can make in a game is the style of weapon you choose, deciding how you battle and the mechanics you use for the whole journey. This is especially true in Genshin Impact because the character you choose will dictate the different weapons you can use, only letting certain weapons for certain characters.

As with any game, some weapons stand out among the rest, both outperforming the others and making the ride a more enjoyable experience. With such an important choice, it's key to make sure you know the pros and cons of each.

5 Claymores

The resounding favorite for players everywhere, probably because it's the most straightforward weapon with the shortest path to victory. Taking out enemies at all levels with wide and powerful swings, it doesn't take a special skill set to use at a high level.

It's almost a near requirement if you want to deal significant damage to the tankier bosses, speeding up some of the most grueling fights in the game. Boss fights are where most players will notice the difference, however, group fights will affect the player much more and make you feel the grind of Genshin Impact a lot less.

It will also come in handy if you want to mine resources, destroying objects at a much faster rate than any other weapon and getting you one step closer to upgrade materials. The more you upgrade it, the harder it will be to switch to a different weapon due to the big drop-off in damage.

4 Swords

The sword is the most flexible weapon type in the game, filling the slot of an all-rounder that can work in almost any role the player chooses. They're more fast and agile than a Claymore, while being able to deal more physical damage than most other weapons.

The main differences that make swords stand out is their speed and variety, giving players a chance to physically attack with a lot more creativity than a claymore. You can get your hits off and quickly evade any counters without committing to a big combination. The best choice for those who like to mix things up and keep combat interesting without completely sacrificing some devastating blows.

The biggest positive when choosing a sword is the variety of individual characters and blades the player can combine to achieve different results. Flowing from one build to the next is a surefire way to make sure the game never gets dull or stale and keeps you immersed in the gameplay for as long as possible.

3 Catalysts

Giving the players an elemental attack that will change depending on their vision, each character will have a completely different experience with the different weapons. It also means that the character will be all but useless in certain fights due to only being able to deal elemental damage, a big hole that has to be worked around.

On the flip side, this also means that certain fights will become very easy, countering enemies that are especially weak to elemental. Usually, this type is used on support characters that can afford the patchy damage output, raking in all the benefits when they're needed.

The variety of attacks and different elements revolves around which of the 6 available characters you choose to equip them to, changing element and attack style each time. It will give you a constant flow of attacks for every character with different effects for each weapon, being able to move the weapon if you switch characters and get a completely different style of play.

2 Bows

The ranged weapon that can deal both elemental and physical attacks, bows are made for players that don't like the stress of being up close and personal with the enemy. Instead, the character will selectively make shots that can change the tide of a battle in your favor, all while having the option to blast them with an elemental blow.

Where players will struggle is finding the moments that bows can actually deal a lot of damage, the moments are so fleeting and rare that most will get frustrated. It's a niche way to play the game for a reason, it requires a lot of focus and dealing with some of the games rougher mechanics in order to make the weapon viable.

If you can master the wonky aiming mechanics then that's most of the battle, taking away a lot of the complaints about the type. However, the rare few who manage to make it through the weapons steep learning curve are some of the most useful in the game and create a unique class that help in a lot of difficult situations.

1 Polearms

Polearms are the fastest weapon type in the game, delivering quick strikers that require the character to lunge in before attacking the enemy. This brings players a lot more opportunities to interrupt an enemy's attack or simply get to the punch first.

The downside to choosing this type is the lack of character support, offering only 5 characters that can even use the weapon. It restricts the player's choices and funnels them into some specific builds with limited variety. However, the unique mechanics will click with some players and be well worth the sacrifice.

The great thing about the Polearm is the extended range you get, giving players some serious breathing space where they don't have to worry about close-range physical attacks. It's not only the length of the weapon but its plunging attacks that cover a lot more ground, extending its already long reach even further.
