In Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Tifa Lockhart unlocks a variety of weapons, each with unique abilities. Which is her best weapon ability?

Final Fantasy VII is easily one of the greatest titles of all time, and it only goes without saying that the expectations for a remake of this legendary classic would be through the roof. In that regard, it's quite amazing that Final Fantasy VII Remake manages to do justice by the original title, featuring a brilliant reimagining of the party's adventures in Midgar and the fleshing out of many aspects of this iconic city.

One of the many areas where Final Fantasy VII Remake excels in is combat, which is truly brilliant. The fast-paced nature of this real-time combat combined with a tactical menu that allows for players to play out the moves they'll use in a battle is nothing short of an absolute blast. This dynamic combat is further enhanced with a string of weapon abilities that are quite interesting in their own right, especially when it comes to the monk of the party, Tifa.

Her close-ranged combat specialties ensure that controlling this character is a lot of fun, with the following weapon abilities — ranked on the basis of their overall effectiveness — adding more layers to the combat strategies one can employ with this character.

6 Mythril Claws — Chi Trap

Tifa isn't really a character who would do well with a high magic stat, given the fact that the bulk of Tifa's attacks are physical. As a result, it's only a given that an ability that would utilize her Magic Power stat as the baseline to decide overall damage would obviously end up being quite underwhelming, a result.

This is precisely the problem with Chi Trap. The act of placing an orb in the middle of battle that can damage enemies is quite a neat little idea, however, the low damage output of this ability coupled with the fact that this orb is largely stationary makes for a highly situational attack. Chi Trap isn't really useful in most normal battle situations.

5 Metal Knuckles — Overpower

The Overpower move is obtained after gaining 100% proficiency with the Metal Knuckles, the weapon with the highest Attack Power stat for Tifa. Therefore, it's only a given that Overpower would be an ability that prioritizes dealing raw damage over anything else, although — just like most of Tifa's attacks — it's also a great way to force enemies into a Pressured state as well.

A bevy of kicks that end up dealing a substantial amount of damage, the Overpower move is something that gamers would obviously use quite a lot in the early goings of the campaign due to the Metal Knuckles being the second weapon in Tifa's arsenal. However, this ability becomes obsolete later on as players end up obtaining better and more interesting weapon abilities.

4 Sonic Strikers — Focused Strike

The Sonic Strikers might be one of the weakest weapons from a pure stat standpoint, but the fact that it allows for the most materia to be equipped on Tifa is something that fans haven't missed out on. Along with this, the Focused Strike move that is learned by becoming proficient with the Sonic Strikers is also quite a useful ability.

Not only does the initial animation of this move allow for Tifa to pull off a near-instant dodge, but it also follows up this dodge with a counterattack that increases the stagger gauge and recovers some precious ATB as well. What this implies is that players who want to stagger an enemy as soon as possible can constantly spam Focused Strike over and over again, making for a rather effective — albeit somewhat cheap — tactic.

3 Leather Gloves — Divekick

The first weapon ability that Tifa obtains through her trademark Leather Gloves is also one of the best and most useful abilities in the game, especially when it comes to clearing out hordes of enemies in one fell swoop. It goes without saying that players would find it in their best interests to use this move whenever Tifa and the rest of the party are being overwhelmed by multiple enemies.

While the utility of this move is somewhat lessened when players end up fighting a single powerful enemy or boss, there's no denying the fact that Divekick is still an extremely useful attack. This move will serve the player well throughout their journey through the tumultuous areas of Midgar.

2 Purple Pain — True Strike

The Purple Pain is a well-rounded weapon that strikes the perfect balance between offense, defense, and materia slots. That said, the main reason why most people find this weapon to be a memorable one is due to its excellent ability that will definitely be utilized several times, especially when the player encounters a strong enemy or a boss.

True Strike is an absolute boon, especially since it increases Stagger massively and puts enemies in a vulnerable position after being utilized just a few times. In fact, this ability could've easily taken over as the most powerful move in Tifa's arsenal, had it not been for one particular weapon ability.

1 Feathered Gloves — Starshower

Easily serving as one of the most powerful moves in Tifa's arsenal, the first time players end up obtaining the Feathered Gloves will also mark a change in their playing style since they'll also attain its weapon ability, Starshower. Not only does this ability dish out a ton of damage, but it also adds an attack bonus to the next attack that Tifa does following this move.

It's an excellent move to whip out in battle regardless of the situation, and it should become a core aspect of Tifa's moveset once players realize the best way possible to make the most of this particular ability. Without a shadow of a doubt, Starshower is easily the most potent and useful move in Tifa's arsenal.
