Capcom is selling various paid DLC for their newest arcade anthology, Capcom Arcade Stadium, which includes invincibility and 'additional features.'

Since the 1980s, Capcom has enjoyed a large amount of success beginning with its arcade titles, with a vast majority of its IPs existing to this day. Games like Final Fight are referenced in Street Fighter, the former's lore coexisting within the Street Fighter universe despite the series not having a new title since 2006's Final Fight: Revenge. A more recent example would be Ghosts 'n Goblins: Ressurection, the newest entry in the 80s action platformer series that has recently been confirmed for other consoles outside of the Switch.

Occasionally, Capcom releases anthologies, collections, and gaming bundles featuring the company's expansive library as a way to introduce newer players to familiar hardware and reintroduce veteran gamers to timeless classics fans may have grown up with. The latest endeavor from Capcom, Capcom Arcade Stadium is Capcom's latest compilation to release on a modern console, this time the Switch. While many titles during Capcom's arcade era were meant to entice the player to continue their game through their quarters as the difficulties increased, Capcom seems to take a modern approach by offering players to pay to win, literally.

Capcom released another trailer promoting Capcom Arcade Stadium, showing off the game's "Additional Features" as the title of the trailer suggests. The feature highlighted in the trailer was the ability to purchase DLC to unlock an invincibility code for the many games featured in Capcom Arcade Stadium.

The tagline, "No More Game Overs," combined with clips of various characters mowing through enemies while shrugging off damage, serves as an incentive for players who wish to have as much of an easy time playing through these games as possible. What's peculiar about this paid DLC for some fans is that there's not much in the way of the player for simply "inserting more coins" and resuming their progress right where they left off, as it costs nothing to the player to do so.

Another feature shown at the end of the trailer was purchasable display frames meant to enhance the viewing experience for players who opt to play the classic arcade titles in their native resolution and would want something other than simple black borders. Display frames for older titles, especially titles featured in "collection"-based compilations, are nothing new for players or Capcom itself, as previous compilations had included free display frames. Most of these compilations were the latest, as was the case for Capcom's 2018 Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle, which was also released for the Switch and featured several of the same titles as Capcom Arcade Stadium.

The decision to include a feature that was often included for free in the past adds on more to the subtle, yet questionable changes Capcom has made for some of its titles. The major change to Fei Long's Hong Kong flag as discovered by a Japanese fan was among several that Capcom decided to include for Capcom Arcade Stadium. Fans who are looking for a complete Capcom arcade experience will have a lot to look forward to as the compilation increases over time, promising long-time and newer fans future content and titles.

Capcom Arcade Stadium is available now on the Nintendo Switch and releases May 25 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
