A dedicated Elite: Dangerous player manages to fly over 84,000 light-years without using one of the most common pieces of equipment.

Elite: Dangerous is an absolutely massive space flight simulation game that allows players to explore a procedurally generated universe to their heart's content. That makes Elite: Dangerous incredibly complex, with a variety of systems and tools for players to take advantage of, and now a player has revealed they completed an impressive journey without using a fuel scoop.

Fuel scoops are a handy piece of equipment that allows players to fly near the surface of stars to refuel one's spaceship. As exploration usually takes players out into uncharted space and far away from any of the universe's many starports, a fuel scoop is a must for experienced and new Elite: Dangerous explorers alike.

However, that hasn't stopped Reddit user kabbooooom from making a post to the game's subreddit describing how they managed to fly over 84,000 light-years without a fuel scoop. The post starts by describing how they kitted out their Anaconda, one of Elite: Dangerous' most popular large-sized ships, for the journey. Basically, Kabbooooom equipped their ship with as many fuel tanks as possible while also boosting the ship's already impressive jump range as much as possible. The build is rather impressive, and they say let them cover around 20,000 light-years with a single tank of fuel.

While the post does say that they stopped at a few space stations and some of Elite: Dangerous' player-run cruisers to refuel when they had the chance, they still traveled to Ishum's Reach, the farthest charted part of the galaxy. This means they would still have had to travel a considerable distance without any civilization around to help them. The post ends by saying that they aren't done. Kabboooom plans on traveling another 90 light-years further away through the game's supercruise mode used for flights between planets in the same star system. Then, they say they should have just enough fuel remaining to jump back to a system where they can get fuel.

It is an undoubtedly impressive feat that Kabbooooom has pulled off, and shows just how much players can accomplish in Elite: Dangerous with a good understanding of its systems and equipment. While Kabbooooom's achievement isn't very applicable for most players, it will be great to see what other incredible things the community manages to do when Elite: Dangerous' expansion Odyssey launches next month. The expansion aims to expand the universe even further by allowing players to get out of their ships and walk around space stations and on planet surfaces.

Elite: Dangerous is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Its newest expansion Odyssey is currently in closed Alpha on PC, and aims to release on May 19 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
